WTA Charleston Open Best Bets Including Qinwen Zheng and Maria Sakkari

I’m back with some more best bets for the Charleston Open. I’m bringing you a couple more matches with potential upsets. Do you agree? Did I hit the mark? Let me know in the comments!

WTA Charleston Open Round of 64

Zheng – Sakkari: Time 16:00

H2H: 1-2

Qinwen Zheng and Maria Sakkari is the featured match for today’s article. These two have an interesting and robust history, with Sakkari leading the head-to-head 1-2, though Zheng won the last time they played. Unfortunately for us, these matches were played on a hard surface, so the evidence is a bit lacking for clay court matches. Zheng enters the match at 7-3 in her last ten, which is almost the opposite of Sakkari, who is 4-6 in her last ten.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Zheng winning, and I agree. That said, given the history Sakkari has with Zheng, it wouldn’t be a complete waste of time to place a throwaway on Sakkari. At +220, you would more than triple your money should she upset Zheng. Zheng is 81-24 lifetime on clay, but Sakkari has played many more matches on clay and has a similar record of 177-107.

That being said, Sakkari winning is a value bet for sure.

Tomljanovic – Stearns: Time 16:00

H2H: 0-0

Ajla Tomljanovic meets Peyton Stearns for the first time at Charleston, and there’s plenty of intrigue in the match, at least to me. While Stearns enters as a favorite, the story becomes much more muddied as you look deeper. Stearns is a very modest 49-30 on clay surfaces, while Tomljanovic is 128-85, and this is Stearns’ first tournament on clay in 2025, while Tomljanovic notched a win over Kyoka Okamura in her previous match at Charleston.

Best Bet to Make

The books have Stearns as a favorite, and while I agree, I’m not as enthusiastic about it as you might think. Stearns enters the match having gone 4-6 in her past ten matches, and Tomljanovic enters the exact opposite at 6-4. Perhaps most importantly, Tomljanovic is 3-2 in her last five while Stearns is 1-4. At +195, there’s too much of an opportunity here for me not to suggest it.

That being said, Tomljanovic winning is a value bet for sure.

Kenin – Bencic: Time 16:00

H2H: 1-0

Sofia Kenin vs Belinda Bencic is one of those matches that could be a headache for bettors. Neither of them lights the world on fire when playing on clay. Bencic is 84-46 all-time on clay while Kenin is 81-58. You’d think this would give Bencic confidence headed into this match, but she’s also 0-1 against Kenin in her career, granted that was on grass and six years ago.

Best Bet to Make

The book has Bencic winning, and I do think it’s more likely. There is still enough value for me to bring it to your attention. At 2.75, you can bring home a decent chunk of change. Evaluate your options, and see how you feel. I think Kenin has enough game to take down Bencic and bring home the win.

That being said, Kening winning is a value bet for sure.
