Camila Osorio and Tatjana Maria have shared the last four titles at the WTA Bogota. The two women will be in action on the same day to kick off their campaigns. After a rainy opening day, most of Day 1 matches will be completed on Tuesday. So, who will reach the next round?
WTA Bogota Day 2 Predictions
Tatjana Maria vs Chloe Paquet
Head-to-head: Maria 2-0 Paquet
It took a heroic performance by Osorio to end Maria’s two-year reign in the Bogota quarterfinals last season. The German veteran forged a 14-match win streak, which yielded two titles. However, her experience at altitude is unmatched, and not many players have the answers to her tricky and deceptive slices. That includes Paquet, who is winless in three previous trips to Colombia.
Prediction: Maria in 2
Katarzyna Kawa vs Valentina Mediorreal Arias
Head-to-head: first meeting
Kawa’s Bogota debut has been eventful. The 32-year-old Pole won a four-hour qualifying match against Patricia Maria Tig to earn a main draw spot. Valentina Mediorreal Arias is one of a handful of home wild cards in action this week and one that should not be underestimated. She took a set from Kamilla Rakhimova last year when she competed in her maiden WTA main draw. Kawa is a player with tremendous stamina, and the day off will help her recover, but if she dropped a set, then the crowd favorite could make things interesting.
Prediction: Kawa in 3
Raluka Serban vs Nuria Parrizas Diaz
Head-to-head: Serban 1-1 Parrizas Diaz
Parrizas Diaz is the higher-ranked player here, sitting over 110 spots above Serban, but her recent form is extremely poor. She’s recorded just one win since January. Lack of court time could indicate she is carrying a niggling injury. She competed in two tournaments in March. Serban is already up to double digits in the winner’s column, including two from qualifying in Bogota, and should hold a slight edge.
Prediction: Serban in 3
Camila Osorio vs Mariana Isabel Higuita Barraza
Head-to-head: first meeting
Osorio starts her title defense against compatriot Higuita Barraza. The 17-year-old has played one match at the Tour level, and it was at this tournament last season. She lost 6-0 6-0 to Renata Zarazua. For the second time in her career, she’s got another wild card in her home tournament, and this first-round match will charm the locals. But expect the defending champion to make a strong start to her week in Bogota.
Prediction: Osorio in 2
