Two marquee matches headline semifinal day at the WTA Indian Wells. Aryna Sabalenka and Madison Keys face off in an Australian Open final rematch. Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva and Iga Swiatek clash for the second WTA 1000 tournament of the season. Who will reach the 2025 BNP Paribas Open final?
WTA Indian Wells Semifinal Predictions
Mirra Andreeva vs Iga Swiatek
Head-to-head: Andreeva 1-1 Swiatek
Andreeva’s quarterfinal victory over Elina Svitolina extends her remarkable win streak to 10 matches. She has only dropped one set in that time and none during the two weeks in Indian Wells. This is already her career-best start to a season at the Tour level, with 17 wins from 20 matches, and she will aim to reach her second successive WTA 1000 final (she won the title in Dubai).
Such numbers would typically be associated with Iga Swiatek. For the last three years, Swiatek has been the standard of consistency. But with the year’s first quarter almost gone, the Pole remains without a title. That can change quickly, possibly this week or before the end of the month in Miami. She’s been at her scintillating best in Indian Wells, dropping only a combined 12 games in four matches, and won’t surrender her title without a fight. But you cannot overlook Andreeva’s immaculate form. She is having the season of her life and full of belief. And with her improved mental discipline, she’ll go into this contest without any fear.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3
Aryna Sabalenka vs Madison Keys
Head-to-head: Sabalenka 4-2 Keys
Sabalenka relinquished her two-year grip on the Australian Open women’s title in January to Keys. The American has been the winningest player on the WTA Tour with a near-perfect 18-1 record. And it is pertinent to note that Keys missed the whole of February because of a hamstring injury, so her numbers could have been more impressive.
After underwhelming performances in the Middle East, Sabalenka has produced one statement victory after another in Indian Wells to reach only her second career semifinal in this tournament. The more forgiving conditions of the desert allow her to control her aggression. Her explosive shots are coming off the racket with a more natural ease, which is why she has yet to drop set. However, the striking difference is that Keys has improved at winning the pressure points this season
Keys is coming off a couple of tight three-set matches in the past week. She also saved five of eight break points in Melbourne when she beat Sabalenka to the title. The Belarusian might be the slight favorite on paper, but Keys can always exploit any slight vulnerability in her game.
Prediction: Keys in 3
