Day 2 at the WTA 1000 event in Indian Wells won’t see the seeds make their debut yet, but it will feature plenty of tight and exciting matchups, including some former top players and Grand Slam champions. It should be a day packed full of action in the Californian desert.
WTA Indian Wells Day 2 Predictions
Olga Danilovic vs Viktoriya Tomova
Head-to-head: Danilovic 2-1 Tomova
Danilovic has been steadily rising and started the year with a very nice run at the Australian Open but it was actually Tomova who won when the pair faced last month in Cluj. Still, under normal circumstances, Danilovic is the superior player at the moment and should have the edge here, even if it should be quite a close match overall.
Prediction: Danilovic in 3
Anhelina Kalinina vs Lucia Bronzetti
Head-to-head: Kalinina 1-1 Bronzetti
This is an extremely tight matchup on paper, with both players having very similar levels and rankings. They faced last year at this very tournament with Bronzetti winning and the Italian should once again have the slight edge given her recent good form. It should, however, be a very competitive match, decided by fine margins.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 3
Sorana Cirstea vs Maya Joint
Head-to-head: first meeting
A battle of two different generations, with up and coming Joint taking on the seasoned Cirstea. In terms of level of play, the two players seem to be quite evenly matched and it might well be Joint’s fresher legs and higher level of hunger making the difference in her favour here.
Prediction: Joint in 3
Maddison Inglis vs Sofia Kenin
Head-to-head: Kenin 1-0 Inglis
Kenin is very far from her Slam-winning days, but she is still fighting hard to get back to big title contention. While a big run here in Indian Wells doesn’t look particularly likely, in this first round she definitely has a very clear edge and should be able to pull through.
Prediction: Kenin in 2
