ATP Australian Open final
Zverev – Sinner: 26.01.2025 09:30 CEST
H2H: 4-2
Alexander Zverev has won eight straight matches. So far this season, Sascha has only played in the United Cup, winning both matches.
In his opening match here in Melbourne, Sascha defeated Pouille in straight sets. After that, Sascha had no problems against Martinez or Fearnley in the second and third rounds, winning both matches in straight sets. However, in the 1/8-Finals, Zverev defeated Humbert in four sets. Besides losing the second set 2-6, Alexander was a better player throughout the match. In the quarterfinals, Zverev had his biggest challenge of the tournament. He defeated Tommy Paul in four sets. He trailed in both the first and second sets but turned them successfully. Tommy was 5-2 up in the second set but fumbled under pressure. In the fourth set, Zverev took control from the start and won easily 6-1. Today, in the semifinals, Novak retired mid-match after losing the first set 6-7 against Sascha.
Last year in Melbourne, Alexander was 2-0 up against Medvedev in the semifinals. Daniil turned the match around. Once again, Zverev crumbled under pressure and failed at the Grand Slam level. That semifinal match was also his biggest result at the Australian Open. This is his third semifinal appearance in Melbourne. In 2020, Zverev also reached the semifinals, losing against Dominic Thiem in four tight sets.
Jannik Sinner has won 23 straight matches. This is his first tournament of the season. Before the Australian Open, Jannik played in the Davis Cup last year, winning the Davis Cup with Italy. His last loss was in October in Beijing, where he lost against Alcaraz in the final, as we had predicted.
In the Australian Open, Sinner defeated Jarry in straight sets, as we predicted. In the second round, Sinner defeated Schoolkate in four sets. Surprisingly, he lost the first set 4-6. After that, in the third round, Sinner dominated against Giron in straight sets, as we predicted. Jannik is the defending champion in the Australian Open. Sinner defeated Rune in four sets, as we predicted in the 1/8-Finals. Both players struggled physically, but Sinner closed the match by winning the third and fourth sets. In the quarterfinals, de Minaur had no weapons for Jannik’s game. Sinner won in straight sets, as we predicted. He offered and saved only one breakpoint. Today, in the semifinals, Jannik won against Shelton in straight sets as we predicted. The Italian saved two set points in the first set. Other than that, Jannik had it easy against Ben.
Last year, Sinner defeated Medvedev in five sets in the final after being 0-2 down. He currently has two Grand Slam titles, and this will be a big chance for him to win his second Australian Open title.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Sinner is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree. Jannik has already won two Grand Slam titles. He is a defending champion here in Melbourne, and he will have the crowd on his side. Zverev always underperformed when it was most important. He has this mental barrier when he plays in Grand Slam events. We expect Sinner to dominate and win his third Grand Slam title and consecutive Australian Open title on Sunday.
That being said, Sinner covering the games handicap is a value bet.
