Nitto ATP Finals Turin Group A
De Minaur – Fritz: 14.11.2024 14:00 CEST
H2H: 6-3
Alex de Minaur has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Alex reached the quarterfinals, where he was stopped by Rune in three tight sets. Here in Turin, Alex lost his opening group match against Jannik Sinner in straight sets. It was overall a low-quality match with both players making too many unforced errors. Alex started off well, breaking Jannik´s serve at the beginning of the first set. However, he lost his serve right away, and just could not keep up with Sinner’s game. After that, Alex lost his second group match against Medvedev in straight sets as we predicted. So far this season, de Minaur has had some solid results on the hard courts. At the beginning of the season, Alex won the title in Acapulco, winning against Ruud in the final. His most recent success was reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open, where he lost against Draper in straight sets. He also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic. Alex has been consistent throughout the whole season, which secured him his career-high ranking at number 6 in the rankings. This is his first appearance at the ATP Finals.
Taylor Fritz has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Taylor lost his opening match against Draper in three tight sets. Before that, Taylor played solidly in Shanghai, where he reached the semifinals, losing against Djokovic in straight sets. Here in Turin, Taylor started off perfectly, winning against Medvedev in straight sets. Fritz was great under pressure, saving all three breakpoints. He also had a high first serve percentage, and made no double faults. After that, Taylor lost his second group match against Sinner in straight sets as we predicted. He loves to play in fast conditions such as this one. At the beginning of the season, Fritz reached the quarterfinals at the Australian Open, where he was stopped by Djokovic in four tight sets. After that, Taylor won the title in Delray Beach, winning against Tommy Paul in the final. His biggest result this season was reaching the final at the US Open, where he was defeated by Sinner in straight sets. Taylor also had a decent success on the grass courts. He won the title in Eastbourne, and reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he was upset by Musetti in five tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Fritz is the slight favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Taylor has been in better form recently, and usually delivers his best tennis on the indoor courts, such as this one. On the other hand, de Minaur has struggled in both of his group matches so far.
That being said, Fritz covering the games handicap is a value bet.
