Medvedev – de Minaur: 12.11.2024 14:00 CEST
H2H: 6-3

Daniil Medvedev has lost four of his last five matches. He also lost four straight matches. His last win was over a month ago in Shanghai, where he defeated Tsitsipas in straight sets in the 1/8-Finals. After that, Medvedev played in an exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia, where he was completely demolished by Sinner in straight sets. Last week in Paris, Daniil lost his opening match against Popyrin in three tight sets. Medvedev was one of the favorites to win the title in Paris, but was just too inconsistent in his opening match. Here in Turin, Daniil lost his opening match against Fritz in straight sets. Medvedev played terribly under pressure. He was frustrated throughout the whole match, and also made a couple of double faults when it was crucial for him to hold the serve. Daniil ended the match with 17 winners and 24 unforced errors. Last year in the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, Daniil successfully made it into the semifinals. He defeated both Rublev and Zverev in straight sets. After that, in the semifinals, Daniil had no answer for Jannik Sinner, and eventually lost in three sets. So far this season, Medvedev had his biggest result at the beginning of the season, when he reached the final at the Australian Open, losing once again against Sinner in five tight sets, after being 2-0 up.

Alex de Minaur has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Alex reached the quarterfinals, where he was stopped by Rune in three tight sets. Alex played solidly throughout the whole week. De Minaur fumbled under pressure in the deciding set, and was close to getting into the semifinals. Here in Turin, Alex lost his opening group match against Jannik Sinner in straight sets. It was overall a low-quality match with both players making too many unforced errors. Alex started off well, breaking Jannik´s serve at the beginning of the first set. However, he lost his serve right away, and just could not keep up with Sinner’s game. So far this season, de Minaur had some solid results on the hard courts. At the beginning of the season, Alex won the title in Acapulco, winning against Ruud in the final. His most recent success was reaching the quarterfinals of the US Open, where he lost against Draper in straight sets. He also reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, where he was forced to withdraw from his quarterfinal match against Novak Djokovic. Alex has been consistent throughout the whole season, which secured him his career-high ranking at number 6 in the rankings. This is his first appearance at the ATP Finals.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be an almost 50-50 match. Medvedev played terribly in his opening match against Fritz. We believe that he will step up his level, and that he will be a better player against de Minaur tomorrow. Daniil is a much more experienced player than de Minaur, who should prevail in this matchup.

That being said, Medvedev winning is a value bet.
