ATP 500 Vienna 1/16-Finals
Popyrin – Mensik: 21.10.2024 19:30 CEST
H2H: 0-1
Alexei Popyrin has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Shanghai, Popyrin reached the third round, where he lost against Dimitrov in straight sets. Popyrin has not been consistent this season, but he still had some solid results, which brought him closer to the top 20 in the rankings. He won the biggest title of his career in Montreal earlier this season. His previous appearances in Vienna ended in the first round. Last year, Alexei won the opening round against Rublev here in Vienna.
Jakub Mensik has won four of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Shanghai, Mensik reached the quarterfinals, where he put up a big battle against Djokovic. Jakub lost that match in three sets, but fought until the very end. Here in Vienna, Mensik successfully qualified for the main-draw tournament. In the first qualifying round, Mensik defeated Ritschard in straight sets. After that, in the final qualifying round, Mensik won against Muller in straight sets. He is aiming to get into the top 50 in the rankings this week.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Mensik is the slight favorite in this matchup. With his recent solid results, Mensik will be fully confident coming into this match. We believe that he will be a better player tomorrow, and win this match.
That being said, Mensik winning is a value bet.

Zverev – Schwaerzler: 21.10.2024 18:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Alexander Zverev has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Shanghai, Zverev was upset by Goffin in straight sets. The German had many big matches this season, but usually fumbled under pressure when it was most important. He is looking to regain self-confidence for the upcoming tournaments in Paris and the ATP Finals. In 2021, Zverev won the title here in Vienna. Last year in Vienna, Zverev reached the quarterfinals, where he lost against Rublev in three tight sets.
J. J Schwaerzler has won three of his last five matches. Two weeks ago in Valencia, Schwaerzler played in the challenger tournament on clay. He lost there in the 1/8-Finals against Choinski in straight sets. The young Austrian is one of the biggest Austrian hopes right now. He started this season outside the top 1000. After claiming his maiden title in Skopje, and some other solid results at the challenger tour level, Schwaerzler climbed over 800 spots in the ATP rankings. He had his biggest results on clay. We are yet to see how well the Austrian can perform on the indoor courts.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Zverev is the big favorite in this matchup. We believe that he will get the job done easily against J. J tomorrow. Schwaerzler is still inexperienced, playing at the highest level. We expect Zverev to dominate from the very start, and win this match easily.
That being said, Zverev covering the games handicap is a value bet.
