We also predict the rest of Monday’s matches in a separate article.

WTA Monastir Day 1 Predictions

Lesia Tsurenko vs Eva Lys

Head-to-head: Tsurenko 1-0

After two seasons of kind of unexpectedly finding her peak game again, seems like this is where it’s come to a stop for Lesia Tsurenko. She hasn’t won consecutive matches since February and has also been struggling with her fitness, withdrawing from events or retiring. But the Ukrainian can still pull off upsets with her two most recent wins coming against Bianca Andreescu and Donna Vekic. Eva Lys is a bit stronger now and might enter the Top 100 with a run here, but she’ll need to be wary of the veteran and all her experience.
Prediction: Lys in 3

Diane Parry vs Chiraz Bechri

Head-to-head: First meeting

Chiraz Bechri played the qualifying at this event last year and could only manage one game against Natalija Stevanovic. It’s quite fascinating but other than Billie Jean King Cup, the Tunisian has been playing only in Monastir this year. The results have been far from impressive in these ITF events and that contributed to her now sitting well outside the Top 1000 in the WTA Rankings. Looking at how she’s been doing this season, it seems like there’s absolutely no way she can touch someone of Diane Parry’s class.
Prediction: Parry in 2

Alycia Parks vs Yuriko Miyazaki

Head-to-head: First meeting

Those who expect Alycia Parks to find consistency should probably give up by now, but she did save her career with a couple of brilliant runs in June and July after not winning a match for about four months earlier in the season. Facing Yuriko Miyazaki it’s just clear the match will be on her racket. Will Parks be able to keep her error count in check? Claiming a title on outdoor hardcourt a little over a month ago is enough to make her the favorite here, but we all know how that might end.
Prediction: Parks in 3
