ATP US Open 1/16-Finals
Van de Zandschulp – Draper: 31.08.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting
Botic Van de Zandschulp has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Winston-Salem, Botic lost his first round match against Cazaux in straight sets. This has been a disappointing season so far for de Zandschulp. Yesterday, Van de Zandschulp won his first round match against Shapovalov as we predicted. After that, in the second round, Van de Zandschulp defeated Alcaraz in straight sets. It was one of the biggest upsets of the season. Last year in New York, Botic lost in the second round against Dan Evans.
Jack Draper has won four of his last five matches. In his opening match here in New York, Zhang retired mid-match against Draper. After that, in the second round, Draper defeated Diaz Acosta in straight sets as we predicted. So far this season, Jack won his maiden title in Stuttgart, and finished as a runner-up in Adelaide at the beginning of the season. Draper is currently the best ranked British player, so the fans will expect him to perform in New York. Last year at the US Open, Draper reached the 1/8-Finals, when he lost against Rublev in four tight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Draper is the favorite in this matchup. He is overall a better hard-court player at the moment than Botic. However, Van de Zandschulp showed great tennis against Alcaraz. It was the biggest win of his career, so we believe that he will be confident coming into this match.
That being said, Van de Zandschulp winning at least one set is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Botic Van de Zandschulp +2.5 sets @1.50 @bet365
Sinner – O´Connell: 31.08.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 1-1
Jannik Sinner has won seven straight matches. Here in New York, Jannik won his first round match against McDonald in four sets as we predicted. After that, in the second round, Sinner defeated Michelsen in straight sets as we predicted. The world number 1 is coming up into this tournament as one of the biggest favorites. Last year in New York, Jannik lost in the fourth round against Zverev in five tough sets.
Christopher O´Connell has won three of his last five matches. Here in New York, O´Connell won his first round match against Jarry convincingly in four sets. He lost his serve only once, at the beginning of the third set. Other than that, Christopher had a solid serving performance. After that, in the second round, O´Connell won against Bellucci in four tight sets as an underdog. Last year in New York, O´Connell reached the second round of the tournament, when he lost against Medvedev in four sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Sinner is the big favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. However, Christopher is a heavy hitter with a big serve. We believe that he will be able to win some free points on his serve, and keep this match tight.
That being said, O´Connell covering the games handicap is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Christopher O´Connell +9.5 games handicap @1.73 @bet365
