ATP Masters 1000 Montreal 1/16-Finals
Ruud – Duckworth: 08.08.2024 20:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Casper Ruud has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Casper lost in the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games against Auger-Aliassime in three tight sets. After that, Casper took some time off to prepare for the second part of the season. His last hard-court match was in March in Miami where he lost against Jarry in the 1/8-Finals. Last year in Toronto, Casper lost in the 1/8-Finals against Davidovich Fokina in three tight sets.
James Duckworth has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Washington, James lost in the first round against Opelka in three tight sets. Here in Montreal, Duckworth fought through the qualifying tournament to get into the main-draw. However, he failed in the final qualifying round, losing against McDonald in straight sets. James managed to get into the main-draw as a lucky loser, and capitalized by winning against Giron in the first main-draw round. Duckworth defeated Giron in straight sets, and earned his spot in the second round.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Ruud is the big favorite in this matchup. It has been a long time since he played on the hard court. His disappointing quarterfinal loss at the Olympic Games will probably impact him emotionally. On the other hand, James spent the last couple of weeks in the States playing on the hard courts and preparing for the US Open.
That being said, Duckworth covering the games handicap is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: James Duckworth +4.5 games handicap @1.73 @bet365
Sinner – Coric: 08.08.2024 20:00 CEST
H2H: 1-0
Jannik Sinner has won four of his last five matches. Since losing against Medvedev in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon, Jannik has not played any matches. That being said, his last match was a month ago. The number 1 was diagnosed with tonsillitis so he had to withdraw from the Olympic Games. His last hard court match was in Miami, where he won the title, earlier this season. Last year in Toronto, Sinner won the title, defeating de Minaur in the final.
Borna Coric has won three of his last five matches. This has been one of his worst seasons. Borna was on the verge of losing the top 100 spot. However, he fought through the qualifying tournament successfully here in Montreal, and got himself into the main-draw. In the first main-draw round, Coric defeated Martinez in straight sets. Last year in Toronto, Borna lost in the first round of the tournament against Vukic in straight sets.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Sinner is the big favorite in this matchup. We are not sure if he is 100% fit, considering his recent health problems. On the other hand, Borna played great tennis in the qualifying tournament. His first round match was also great, so we believe that he gained some self-confidence back. We believe that he will fight on the court and keep this match tight.
That being said, Coric covering the games handicap is a value bet.
Value bet/ the best odds: Borna Coric +4.5 games handicap @2.00 @bet365
