It’s been a fun first few days at the Iasi Open with the tournament getting upgraded to a WTA 250 this year. One of the highlights of the Tuesday schedule should be the third clash of Olga Danilovic and Anca Todoni. The two have already traded meetings at two Slams this year and they know the winner will get a great opportunity later in the event. Who do you think will prevail this time around? Selena Janicijevic vs Miriam Bulgaru
Head-to-head: First meeting
Miriam Bulgaru comfortably beating the veteran Tatjana Maria was quite impressive, but how about Selena Janicijevic taking out three opponents already? The Frenchwoman seems to have caught some solid form of late with her most recent appearance being a run to the semifinals in Contrexeville. She only lost after a thriller against Mayar Sherif there and maybe the once-heralded junior prospect is about to make major impact in a WTA Tour event for the first time.

Lea Boskovic vs Varvara Lepchenko
Head-to-head: First meeting
38-year-old Varvara Lepchenko is putting together a pretty nice campaign this year, but the comeback win against Martina Trevisan was still relatively unexpected. All that after a great run in the qualifying as well. We’ll see if the veteran still has enough fuel to play this well on back-to-back days and that might actually be one of the stories of the match here. No disrespect to Lea Boskovic’s game, but this is more about the former Top 20 player Lepchenko and how well she can recover for Tuesday.

Marina Bassols Ribera vs Anna Bondar
Head-to-head: Bondar 2-0
It’s been a few years now with Anna Bondar mostly spending time around the 100th spot in the rankings, but especially on clay the Hungarian tends to show her class anytime she gets a workable draw or drops down a level. She recently won a stacked ITF event in Olomouc and was runner-up in Bellinzona and Chiasso in April. The quality of the field isn’t that much higher in Iasi and she could be one of the players who will take advantage of that.

Olga Danilovic vs Anca Todoni
Head-to-head: 1-1
They traded meetings at the last two Slams with Anca Todoni prevailing on grass, while Olga Danilovic came out on top on clay. Their qualifying round one actually kicked off a big run for the Serbian, Todoni was a little unlucky to run into Coco Gauff right after they played in London. This seems quite close. The Romanian has a nice opportunity for a run at home, but it’s not going to be easy with Danilovic one of these ever-dangerous players. Let’s say a bit of that home crowd magic helps out Todoni, who’s looking like a great prospect recently.
