ATP Lyon Best Bets Including Bublik vs Kotov

Dominic Thiem in action ahead of the ATP Antwerp Open.

ATP Lyon quarterfinals

Kotov – Bublik: 23.05.2024 14:00 CEST
H2H: 0-1

Pavel Kotov has won three of his last five matches. Here in Lyon, Kotov has won both of his matches so far in straight sets. In the first round match, Kotov won against Cachin 6-1 6-4. Kotov was all over the court and was hitting his huge forehands easily. Two days ago, Kotov defeated Muller as an underdog in straight sets once again. He plays really aggressively without making many unforced errors. Kotov has been playing really well and consistent lately and is now on the verge of breaking into the top 50. Pavel struggled on the hard courts earlier this season, but found his best form on clay and now looks ready for the French Open.

Alexander Bublik has won three of his last five matches. We all know how the clay surface is his least favorite one. Bublik won his first match here in Lyon against Vukic in straight sets. This will be his third quarterfinal on clay. He lost his previous quarterfinal matches against Garin and Ruud. Earlier this season, Bublik played great tennis and even won the title in Montpellier, which pushed him into the top 20. So far this season, Bublik has an even 3-3 record on the clay.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. However, Bublik has historically not performed well on clay. On the other hand, Kotov feels comfortable on clay, and has already won a couple of matches more than Bublik this season on clay.

That being said, Kotov winning is a value bet.

Mpetshi Perricard – Gaston: 23.05.2024 17:30 CEST
H2H: first meeting

Mpetshi Perricard has won four of his last five matches. Perricard is a young French talent who might get into the top 100 pretty soon. Last week in Bordeaux, Mpetshi reached the challenger quarterfinals where he lost against Barrere in straight sets. Here in Lyon, Mpetshi won his first round match convincingly 6-3 6-4 against Sonego. Yoshihito Nishioka unfortunately withdrew from the tournament, so Mpetshi reached the quarterfinals without having to play in the second round.

Hugo Gaston is looking to get into his best form right before the French Open. So far this season, Gaston has underperformed with a couple of huge losing streaks. Here in Lyon, Gaston had to fight throughout the qualification tournament to get into the main draw. En route to the second round, Gaston won both of his qualifying matches in straight sets. In his first round match, Gaston won against Galan in two tiebreaks, spending almost three hours on the court. Yesterday, Gaston won in another thriller against Cerundolo in three sets yet again. We believe that he will be physically exhausted today after spending so much time on the court this week.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, this should be a 50-50 match. However, we believe that Mpetshi is more rested than Gaston. The French Open will start this week on Sunday, so Gaston may try to make this quarterfinal easier to get some rest before one of the biggest tournaments of the season.

That being said, Mpetshi Perricard winning is a value bet.
