Each player faced one difficult match on their way to the final. Bouzkova had a long and grueling battle in the quarterfinal against Laura Siegemund, eventually coming through 7-5 in the third set. The Czech won her other three contests in straight sets. Osorio Serrano also managed three straight-set victories during her run to the final. The Colombian dropped one set during her superb triumph against the defending champion Tatjana Maria in the quarterfinal.
Expect many long rallies in this match. The high altitude at WTA Bogota means the conditions are quicker than most clay courts, but that will not prevent extended rallies between two players with a consistent style. Osorio Serrano is likely to be the slightly more aggressive of the two. She has the more natural tendency to try and show some impetus in the rally if it becomes very long, while Bouzkova is content to be very patient.
This promises to be a tight final. However, Osorio Serrano gets a slight edge. Her only previous title was at this event three years ago, showing she can handle the pressure of playing in front of her home fans. Also, she has been more naturally comfortable on clay throughout her career. Bouzkova had lost 15 of her 23 WTA clay court matches before this event. By contrast, Osorio Serrano had won 34 of 49 clay court contests, with the dirt being her favourite surface by far. Both of Bouzkova’s previous victories against the Columbian were on a hard court.
The combination of home advantage and natural clay court prowess makes Osorio Serrano the favourite. But Bouzkova is a fighter and has a chance if she produces her best tennis.
