Day 4 at ATP Indian Wells promises plenty of excitement, with the remaining seeds making their tournament debuts, including the 2022 champion Taylor Fritz and last year’s finalist Daniil Medvedev. As always, we at LWOT have the preview and prediction for all matches, including three separate articles featuring Novak Djokovic vs. Aleksander Vukic, Casper Ruud vs. Lukas Klein, and Holger Rune vs. Milos Raonic. It should be another action-packed day in the California desert. Who do you think will advance?
ATP Indian Wells Day 4 Predictions
Lorenzo Musetti vs Denis Shapovalov
Head-to-head: first meeting
Both players are having pretty poor years so far, with Musetti currently on a four-match losing streak and Shapovalov failing to get any significant results this season. With that said, Shapovalov’s level seems a bit higher at the moment, and the surface should be to his advantage in this matchup, so he has a slight edge going in.
Prediction: Shapovalov in 3
Taylor Fritz vs Alejandro Tabilo
Head-to-head: Fritz 1-0 Tabilo
Indian Wells has been a very happy hunting ground for Fritz, with his (so far) only career Masters 1000 title in 2022 and deep runs in 2021 and 2023. He’s one of the few players on tour who seems particularly comfortable at this venue, and he should have too much for Tabilo here. As well as Tabilo played in the Golden Swing, on a hardcourt, he simply doesn’t have the weapons to trouble the world’s best players.
Prediction: Fritz in 2
Grigor Dimitrov vs Alexandre Muller
Head-to-head: first meeting
Aside from his shocking loss to Nuno Borges in Australia, Dimitrov has continued his good form from last year so far in 2024, with a title in Brisbane, a final in Marseille, and a semifinal in Rotterdam. With a strong United States swing, he has a real chance to get back to the top 10. Dimitrov will be extremely motivated and have too much for Muller.
Prediction: Dimitrov in 2
Daniil Medvedev vs Roberto Carballes Baena
Head-to-head: Medvedev 2-0 Carballes Baena
Among the big hardcourt events, Indian Wells is probably Medvedev’s worst, but he’s always a force to be reckoned with on this surface. In recent times, he has been coming up just ever so slightly short in finals against the likes of Sinner, Djokovic, and Alcaraz. However, against lower-ranked opposition, he tends to be quite ruthless.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
