WTA Finals Day 2 Predictions Including Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur

Coco Gauff US Open

Day 2 of the WTA Finals in Cancun will feature matchday 1 of the extremely stacked Chetumal group, featuring the champions of three of the four Slams of the year (Swiatek, Vondrousova, and Gauff), as well as a Wimbledon finalist (Jabeur). It will certainly be a great day of tennis in Mexico after a somewhat disappointing first day due to how lopsided the matches were.

WTA Finals Day 2 Predictions

Iga Swiatek vs Marketa Vondrousova

Head-to-head: Swiatek 3-0 Vondrousova

Swiatek comes into these finals still in with a chance of finishing the year ranked #1 and she will do anything in her power to achieve it. Despite losing her #1 ranking, it’s fair to say Swiatek is still the most dominant player on the WTA tour, leading the field with 60 match wins, an 86% of victories on the year (60-10) and a scarcely believable 20 bagels dished out. She still feels like the player to beat and is rightly considered the favorite to win the title here in Cancun. Vondrousova has had an incredible season, claiming a very unexpected maiden Slam at Wimbledon but Swiatek is clearly a few levels above her and should definitely prevail in this one.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2

Coco Gauff vs Ons Jabeur

Head-to-head: Gauff 3-2 Jabeur

Gauff has barely played any tennis after her sensational run to a maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open so it’s very hard to gauge her current form. With that said, she already has the edge in this matchup and has far more upside going forward than Jabeur so she should be expected to win the majority of the meeting between the pair. After a disappointing loss in the Wimbledon final, Jabeur hasn’t really been playing great, despite a recent title at Ningbo and she isn’t really considered to be a massive contender here. Gauff comes in as the favorite and should be able to pull through.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
