ATP Basel Quarterfinal Predictions Including Holger Rune vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry

Holger Rune in action ahead of the ATP Basel Swiss Indoors.

This Friday at the ATP 500 event in Basel will see the quarterfinal matches being played, with both of last year’s finalists, champion Felix Auger-Aliassime and runner-up Holger Rune, still in the tournament, as well as recent Shanghai champion Hubert Hurkacz. While the draw is overall weaker (on paper) than Vienna’s, looking at this quarterfinal lineup we can definitely expect a very exciting end to the tournament and it’s very hard to predict who will take the title.

ATP Basel Quarterfinal Predictions

Tallon Griekspoor vs Hubert Hurkacz

Head-to-head: Griekspoor 1-1 Hurkacz

The pair have faced each other twice this year already, with Hurkacz winning a tight five setter at Roland Garros and Griekspoor prevailing in the third set tiebreak at Halle. Another very tight match is to be expected here; Hurkacz is surely high on confidence after recently winning his second career Masters 1000 in Shanghai, while Griekspoor is having the best season of his career and has already beaten De Minaur this week. Hurkacz is still very much in the race to London and every win might be the difference between making it or not, so he will be extra motivated here.
Prediction: Hurkacz in 3

Ugo Humbert vs Dominic Stricker

Head-to-head: first meeting

Stricker came into this match on an awful six match losing streak, but he has turned things around nicely here in Basel and even beat Casper Ruud on his way here. With that said, Humbert is still the clearly superior player and is looking to cap the best season of his career so far with some great runs indoors. He should be able to prevail here.
Prediction: Humbert in 3

Alexander Shevchenko vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

Head-to-head: first meeting
Shevchenko is having an amazing run so far this week. After making it through the qualifying, the world #83 beat Wawrinka in the first round and then won an epic three hour, three tiebreak affair against Taylor Fritz, in which he saved all 15 break points he faced. Aliassime is having a terrible season but he might just have a ressurgence indoors; he won here in Basel last year and has been looking good so far this week. He needs to defend his title here to have any hope of retaining his top 20 ranking and will be desperate to do so.
Prediction: Auger-Aliassime in 2

Holger Rune vs Tomas Martin Etcheverry

Head-to-head: Rune 1-1 Etcheverry

Rune had lost ten of his last eleven matches before this tournament, but he has scored back to back wins here and he showed last year that he feels very comfortable playing indoors. The conditions along with his new coach Boris Becker should give Rune the necessary edge to overcome a solid opponent in Etcheverry, who has already far surpassed expectations this week with victories over Andy Murray and Sebastian Korda.
Prediction: Rune in 3
