ATP Shanghai Day 4 Predictions
Nicolas Jarry vs Terence Atmane
Head-to-head: first meeting
Jarry has been having a really solid season with plenty of quality wins, including last week against Tsitsipas in Beijing. He has a big game and should entrench himself in the top 20 very soon. This is quite a tricky match for him though, Atmane is a young talented player himself and has been playing at a very good level in this Asian swing so far, including some excellent performances to make it through the qualifying and getting past the first round against Jordan Thompson. Jordan still should have a bit too much for him at this point, though.
Prediction: Jarry in 3
Botic Van De Zandschulp vs Ugo Humbert
Head-to-head: Humbert 1-0 Van de Zandschulp
van de Zandschulp has been having quite a disappointing season, unable to maintain the high standards he had shown in 2021 and 2022. Humbert has been playing quite well so far in China; last week in Beijing, he beat Andrey Rublev and pushed Medvedev hard. If he can maintain that level, he should be looking at another very good in this tournament.
Prediction: Humbert in 2

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Matteo Arnaldi
Head-to-head: Struff 1-0 Arnaldi
Both players are having career best seasons, with Struff having the best result of his career with a final in the Madrid Masters after a long career and Arnaldi breaking through and showing signs that he might be a top player in the future. Struff’s momentum was halted by injury during the grass season and so far in China he hasn’t even come close to replicating the level he had shown until June. At this point, Arnaldi should have a clear edge in this matchup.
Prediction: Arnaldi in 2
Carlos Alcaraz vs Gregoire Barrere
Head-to-head: first meeting
Barrere could hardly have had worse luck here with his draw; Alcaraz hasn’t quite been at his best since Wimbledon, but he’s still too much to handle for the vast majority of the tour and will be hungry for a title here in his quest to chase Djokovic down for the year-end #1 ranking. Barrere will need to play the match of his life to stop the Alcaraz juggernaut here.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 2
