ATP Chengdu Day 3 Predictions
Christopher O’Connell vs Taro Daniel
Head to head – O’Connell 0-1 Daniel
Christopher O’Connell is enjoying a good run since the US Open with a Challenger event win and starting strong here. He faces Taro Daniel who did struggle initially in his first round match. The Japanese won an easy straight sets match but on current form the Australian looks likely to nab the win.
Prediction: O’Connell in 3
Dusan Lajovic vs Jordan Thompson
Head to head – First Meeting
Both players are similarly ranked in the early to mid fifties which makes this match very interesting. Dusan Lajovic did need three sets in his first round match but the Serb should be raring to make the most out of this week. Jordan Thompson is a decent baseliner but for this one, Lajovic looks to have slightly more power and versatility to proceed to the quarterfinals.

Dan Evans vs Roman Saifullin
Head to head – First Meeting
Daniel Evans will look to hit the ground running as soon as possible after a heart wrenching loss at the US Open to Carlos Alcaraz. The Brit takes on Roman Saifullin who looked good in his first round match but Evans has been a steady player at this level and I don’t see Saifullin giving much trouble to Evans.
Prediction: Evans in 2
Juan Pablo Varillas vs Grigor Dimitrov
Head to head – First Meeting
Grigor Dimitrov is a clear contender for the title this week as the Bulgarian looks to boost his rankings prior to the 2024 season. He has been in decent nick and played a good tournament in the US Open 2023. He faces Juan Pablo Varillas who did look good in his first round match but Dimitrov is a much better all round player to lose in the Round of 16.
Prediction: Dimitrov in 2
