Pavel Kotov has done well to qualify for the main draw, but it is tough to see how he will fare against better-ranked players given the quality of the players he was facing in the qualifiers. Daniel Elahi Galan hasn’t been in top-notch form, but he does play well on hard courts. Expect the Colombian to struggle in his win.

Jie Cui vs Juan Pablo Varillas
Head to head – First Meeting
Jie Cui has received a wild card for this tournament, but the Chinese is still too far away in the rankings to create any trouble for the higher-ranked opponents. Juan Pablo Varillas will be looking for a fast start here to gain momentum and potentially label himself as a dark horse for the coming week.

Arthur Rinderknech vs Emil Ruusuvuori
Head to head – First Meeting
Emil Ruusuvuori returns to the tour after having dropped out of the US Open 2023. It will be interesting to see how he plays his first match here. Arthur Rinderknech, on the other hand, had a decent outing in the US Open and will be drawing on that confidence to make a mark this week. Expect Ruusuvuori to go down fighting against the Frenchman, who looks to be in decent nick.

Alexander Bublik vs Marcos Giron
Head to head – Bublik 1-2 Giron
This should be a great contest. Both these players know each other’s game styles as they have met on three previous occasions. Alexander Bublik hasn’t won a match since Wimbledon while Marcos Giron did put up a decent showing in the Canadian Open after which he too has failed to win a match. Giron has won the last meetings and he will know Bublik is out of form. Expect the American to pounce on this opportunity.
