WTA Guadalajara Day 2 Predictions Including Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Danielle Collins

Beatriz Haddad Maia French Open

It’s an action-packed Day 2 at the 2023 WTA Guadalajara Open Akron with fourteen singles matches on the schedule. In one of the most exciting round-one clashes, Danielle Collins will take on Beatriz Haddad Maia. Who do you think will advance to the next stage of the event?

WTA Guadalajara Day 2 Predictions

Robin Montgomery vs Victoria Azarenka

Head-to-head: First meeting

Victoria Azarenka made the semifinals in Guadalajara in 2022, taking out the likes of Madison Keys and Coco Gauff. While her campaign this year has been uninspiring (other than the Australian Open), this is an event where she might get a chance to shine. Players who can control their shots in the altitude conditions usually get a big advantage over the others. Robin Montgomery’s lack of experience might also be the deciding factor here as she’ll need to be smart on the court to win.
Prediction: Azarenka in 2

Camila Osorio vs Magdalena Frech

Head-to-head: Osorio 2-0

They played last week in San Diego with Camila Osorio prevailing 6-3 1-6 6-4. The conditions in Guadalajara aren’t similar at all, despite both events being held on outdoor hard courts. The Colombian also defeated Magdalena Frech in Monterrey last year though. She has to be regarded as the favorite for this matchup although her opponent’s gritty style could cause her some issues if she’s not careful about her shot selection. She usually is.
Prediction: Osorio in 3

Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Danielle Collins

Head-to-head: First meeting

Danielle Collins is definitely catching some fire now after coming back from her injury break in the spring. Last week in San Diego she made big runs both in singles and doubles, so she could be coming to Guadalajara a bit tired. This looks like a very even matchup, so maybe this is actually enough to tip the scales in Beatriz Haddad Maia’s favor. The Brazilian could have a nice shot at getting enough errors out of the inconsistent Collins, taking advantage of her high-risk style.
Prediction: Haddad Maia in 3
