Expect plenty of entertaining action on day two at the US Open. There are 32 matches on the schedule and, as always, we here LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Aryna Sabalenka vs Maryna Zanevska, Jessica Pegula vs Camila Giorgi, Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio, Elina Svitolina vs Anna-Lena Friedsam, Caroline Garcia vs Wang Yafan, Karolina Pliskova vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Daria Kasatkina vs Alycia Parks. But who will advance?
US Open Day 2 Predictions
Venus Williams vs Greet Minnen
Nurein: Venus Williams is playing her 24th main draw at the US Open, but at this stage of her career, she understands every match she goes into, the odds will be stacked against her. But Williams has always thrived in that regard. And with a sold-out exuberant crowd, who wouldn’t cheer for the seven-time major champion? But putting sentimentality aside, Greet Minnen is 17 years younger and has the wind in her sails after tallying seven wins in her past eight matches including three from qualifying.
Prediction: Minnen in 2
Glenys: Williams had a change of opponent and now faces Belgian Minnen. Minnen made the final of the Polish Open before losing out in a tight match. Williams has not played much, but she doesn’t need to. Her reputation and status preceed her, and nerves of whoever her opponent is usually kick in.
Prediction: Minnen in 3
Jordan: Hopefully Williams is fully fit for this one after withdrawing from Cleveland last week. The 43-year-old is still playing at a remarkable level for her age. Qualifier Minnen will have to deal with the home crowd. But she looked good in qualifying, and may last the course a little better in a long match.
Prediction: Minnen in 3

Madison Brengle vs Linda Noskova
Nurein: Madison Brengle is a veteran and very much capable of winning this match. But I’ll go with the talent of Noskova here. After an explosive start to the year in Australia, the young Czech faded during the clay and grass swings. She appears to have burst into life again since the summer hard-court swing began. Noskova has the edge here.
Prediction: Noskova in 2
Glenys: Brengle and Noskova have not met yet so this will be fairly interesting. Brengle is the more experienced and hopes will be high in the home crowd. Noskova may find things a bit too much with the crowd and crumble against the American
Prediction: Brengle in 2
Jordan: Brengle has some past success at this event with two third round appearances. And her game does suit the conditions well. However Noskova is playing the better tennis on hard courts recently, including a final in Prague. I think the American will find it hard to overcome her.
Prediction: Noskova in 2

Rebecca Marino vs Patrica Maria Tig
Nurein: Patricia Maria Tig isn’t a regular on Tour these days and it is tough to get momentum when you play on a limited schedule. Big-serving Rebecca Marino couldn’t have chosen a more straightforward opener.
Prediction: Marino in 2
Glenys: Another match up for the netural fans. Marino is the higher ranked player, but Tig has played well to get here. Canadian Marino is a “back up” for Americans if they can’t get a win in the first round. Marino should have little trouble with Tig, but shocks can happen
Prediction: Marino in 2
Jordan: The experienced Marino equalled her best Grand Slam result in New York last season. Her opponent Tig has had a lot of injury problems in recent times. Against a player like Marino, any fitness uncertainties makes it very difficult, as she can engage in long rallies. The Canadian in straights.
Prediction: Marino in 2

Katie Boulter vs Diane Parry
Nurein: This is a very interesting matchup. Boulter is the British No. 1 but she’ll need to be very careful here as Diane Parry is one of the fastest-rising stars of French tennis. Armed with a silky one-handed backhand that she utilizes to neutralize pace with her Mauresmo-esque slice, Boulter might need to dig deeper to see off the French player.
Prediction: Boulter in 3
Glenys: An all European clash in the first round. Boulter is slightly higher ranked, so will go in as the favourite. Boulter would prefer the underdog status, but beggars can’t be choosers. Parry made a semifinal, but back in June so a long time ago in tennis really. Boulter has played sparingly to help wth her build up.
Prediction Boulter in 2
Jordan: Boulter had a very good grass court season, but has mostly struggled for wins since. Parry is most comfortable on clay, but the courts in New York will be receptive to the heavy spin she uses on her forehand weapon. The Frenchwoman to just come through due to that firepower
Prediction: Parry in 3
