US Open Women’s Day 2 Predictions Including Jessica Pegula vs Camila Giorgi

Jessica Pegula in action ahead of the US Open.

After an entertaining start at the US Open, the exciting action is set to continue on day two with 32 matches on the slate in New York. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Venus Williams vs Greet Minnen, Aryna Sabalenka vs Maryna Zanevska, Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio, Elina Svitolina vs Anna-Lena Friedsam, Caroline Garcia vs Wang Yafan, Karolina Pliskova vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Daria Kasatkina vs Alycia Parks. But who will reach the round of 64?

US Open Day 2 Predictions

Jessica Pegula vs Camila Giorgi

Jordan: The multiple time Grand Slam quarterfinalist is seeking to silence any doubters about whether she can take the next step. But avoiding early round upsets is something she is one of the best at doing. Camila Giorgi is still a very capable player, but is not at the level she once was. Jessica Pegula losing would be a massive shock.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Glenys: The American is way ahead on the head-to-head here. Including three wins on the Italian’s preferred clay. Pegula is the third seed and should have little difficulty with the Italian. Giorgi shouldn’t be underestimated, but Pegula is at different level to most of the tour.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Yesh: Giorgi is a potential slip-up for anyone, but she has so rarely put her full game together. Pegula is so consistent from all over the court, so Giorgi probably won’t find the game to beat her.

Prediction: Pegula in 2

Martina Trevisan vs Yulia Putintseva

Jordan: Yulia Putintseva is not having her best season. Many of her matches have seen sudden drops in form that have cost her. However, Martina Trevisan is one of the biggest clay clear specialists the WTA has ever seen. That does not guarantee a Putintseva win, but certainly makes it far more likely.

Prediction: Putintseva in 3

Glenys: Both are happier on the clay. This will be the second meeting between the pair, with Putintseva winning their first in Abu Dhabi two years ago easily. Trevisan has improved since then on hard courts, and Putintseva is not playing as well as she was, but the Kazakh should still have enough.

Prediction: Putintseva in 3

Yesh: Putintseva hasn’t been her usual solid self recently, while Trevisan has been solid but not great this year. Putintseva is the better player, so if she can find her range she should be able to win.

Jodie Burrage vs Anna Blinkova

Jordan: Both women have been struggling for victories since Wimbledon. Jodie Burrage though has mostly been competing below tour-level. This may not be the highest quality first round match. But Anna Blinkova is still a slight favourite.

Prediction: Blinkova in 3

Glenys: Burrage will be making her US Open debut. She reached the second round at Wimbledon earlier this year. Blinkova has been out of form recently, but has lost her last three matches. Burrage could beat her here.

Prediction: Burrage in 3

Yesh: Burrage has made a few noteworthy performances this year, but she’s done little outside grass and the UK. I don’t expect much from her here, either.

Prediction: Blinkova in 2

Rebecca Montgomery vs Eva Lys

Jordan: This is a great opportunity for two young talents. 18-year-old Robin Montgomery actually made her first appearance at the US Open in 2020, but this is her first appearance since then. Eva Lys is in the main draw for the first time. Both players are capable of great shotmaking. Montgomery to narrowly win in front of her home crowd.

Prediction: Montgomery in 3

Glenys: Montgomery looks like a star of the future and the same could be said of Lys, who soared through the qualifying without dropping a set. But Mongtomery’s big hitting (along with the support of the crowd) should be enough to see her in the second round.

Prediction: Montgomery in 3

Yesh: Montgomery will be a household name someday. The American is too talented and likes these courts too much not to be. Will this her breakout performance? Maybe not, but it’s coming soon.

Prediction: Montgomery in 2
