But who will advance in New York?
US Open Day 2 Predictions
Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio
Yesh: Ons Jabeur hasn’t been as great this year as last year, but she reached another Wimbledon final. I expect another big showing from her at the next Major.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2
Jim: It’s been a slightly mixed bag for Jabeur this season and she will surely still be hurting after her defeat in the final at Wimbledon. But Camila Osorio hasn’t managed to kick on over the last few years and with Jabeur usually able to find her best tennis at the Majors, the Tunisian looks the likelier winner here by a distance.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2
Jordan: Jabeur has spoken about how long her second Wimbledon final defeat has taken to get over. Observing her intensity and body language in the early rounds will be interesting. Osorio has not had many hard court wins lately. It is unlikely she will stop Jabeur regardless of how the Tunisian plays.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2

Lesia Tsurenko vs Elsa Jacquemot
Yesh: Lesia Tsurenko was impressive at Wimbledon but hasn’t done much on the hard courts since. Still, she gets a favouzrable matchup after Bianca Andreescu withdrew.
Prediction: Tsurenko in 3
Jim: Don’t underestimate Elsa Jacquemot here. The French young gun is a very talented player and was largely untroubled in coming through the qualifying. With Tsurenko having been out of form recently, this might just be the perfect opportunity for Jacquemot.
Prediction: Jacquemot in 3
Jordan: Tsurenko has not played many tournaments or won many matches since Wimbledon. But she is a former quarterfinalist at Flushing Meadows. Jacquemot saved an incredible seven match points in one of her qualifying matches for the main draw. She does have momentum. That belief could drive her over the finishing line against an out of form Blinkova.
Prediction: Jacquemot in 3

Barbora Krejcikova vs Lucia Bronzetti
Yesh: Barbora Krejcikova hasn’t quite put all her Slam-winning talent together since she took home the French Open title a few years ago, but she’s solid and one of the better players. Will she win the US Open? Probably not. Will she go far? Yes.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 2
Jim: Krejcikova still looks more comfortable on the doubles court, her French Open title notwithstanding, but she is also seeded 12th for a reason. If she plays anything that resembles her best tennis, she should have the beating of Bronzetti.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 2
Jordan: 2021 French Open winner Krejcikova has only played one tournament since Wimbledon. Hence rustiness could be an issue. That said, her best game would certainly be too good for Bronzetti, even though she is always a determined competitor. This should be an ideal first round for the Czech player.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 2

Donna Vekic vs Sachia Vickery
Yesh: Sachia Vickery is a talented American who hasn’t quite found any consistency yet. Donna Vekic, meanwhile, has shown flashes of elite talent recently. Don’t be surprised if she goes far.
Prediction: Vekic in 2
Jim: This is a potentially tough draw for Vekic, who has not exactly been a byword for consistency recently. If Vickery can get the crowd involved and show the same grit and determination that served her so well in the qualifying, she might just be able to get the better of the Croatian.
Prediction: Vickery in 3
Jordan: American Vickery has been around for a while now, and has reached the second round at Flushing Meadows on three occasions. But Vekic is such a solid all-court player, as shown by her reaching at least the fourth round of all the Grand Slams. The Croatian is likely to be too consistent for the home favourite here.
Prediction: Vekic in 2
