US Open Women’s Day 2 Predictions Including Daria Kasatkina vs Alycia Parks

Daria Kasatkina in action ahead of the US Open.

It promises to be an entertaining second day at the US Open with 32 matches on the slate. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match, including Venus Williams vs Greet Minnen, Jessica Pegula vs Camila Giorgi, Ons Jabeur vs Camila Osorio, Elina Svitolina vs Anna-Lena Friedsam, Caroline Garcia vs Wang Yafan, Karolina Pliskova vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse and Aryna Sabalenka vs Maryna Zanevska. But who will advance to the round of 64?

US Open Day 2 Predictions

Daria Kasatkina vs Alycia Parks

Jim: Alycia Parks has a very bright future and if she gets on a roll, she could win this match. The problem for the American is that she may find it hard to get into a rhythm against Daria Kasatkina.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 2

Damian: Parks has failed to live up to the hype though if there was an indoor Slam I’d be the first to back her to make the second week. Her consistency outdoors remains non-existent though and the American gets a tough opponent here. She could theoretically overwhelm Kasatkina with her power, but it hasn’t been working out for her.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 2

Yesh: Parks looked like she was ready to take the next step earlier this year, but it hasn’t happened yet. Kasatkina has found her form again and is solidly a fringe Top 10 player. The Russian should advance.

Prediction: Kasatkina in 2

Marie Bouzkova vs Alison Krueger

Jim: Marie Bouzkova has underperformed at the Majors (barring a quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon last year) but has a fresh chance to put that right here. Will she be able to take it? For all that Alison Krueger will have the crowd with, it certainly looks like a favourable draw for the Czech.

Prediction: Bouzkova in 2

Damian: Bouzkova had a couple of nice runs in Montreal and Cincinnati, but her game itself is not that imposing. It does take a certain degree of controlled aggression to take her out though. Krueger is a fairly talented player, but she hasn’t broken through yet and might not have what it takes at this point.

Prediction: Bouzkova in 3

Yesh: Bouzkova is a solid player enjoying a fine season. Assuming she’s healthy, she should be fine here.

Irina-Camelia Begu vs Tamara Korpatsch

Jim: It’s been a tough few weeks for Irina-Camelia Begu, with the Romanian struggling with injury issues and seemingly out of form. But she is probably a cut above Tamara Korpatsch and should have enough, even if she isn’t at her best.

Prediction: Begu in 3

Damian: In her long illustrious career, Begu is yet to progress past the second round at the US Open. Her only warm-up match wasn’t great either and it doesn’t seem like her style will be overly effective in the New York conditions of this year. Might be a nice opportunity for Korpatsch, although her form is pretty uninspiring too.

Prediction: Korpatsch in 3

Yesh: Begu is timeless, and usually good for a win or two at an event. Maybe Korpatsch is better than her on slower surfaces, but her advantages go away on hard courts.

Leylah Fernandez vs Ekaterina Alexandrova

Jim: Another entertaining match in the making here. Leylah Fernandez has plenty of quality, though consistency is a real issue for the Canadian. It may sound harsh, but you could probably say the reverse is true for Ekaterina Alexandrova. Don’t be surprised if consistency beats quality though.

Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Damian: Alexandrova matches are so hard to predict. The Russian is a genuine elite player when she’s on, but can also start firing unforced errors left and right. A tricky counterpuncher like Fernandez could find a way to take advantage of that. Will Alexandrova like the US Open quick courts/heavy balls combination? It remains to be seen.

Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Yesh: Fernandez’s fall since her breakout run to the final here a few years back has been stunning. She’s searching for form. Against a strong rising player like Alexandrova isn’t where she’ll find it.

Prediction: Alexandrova in 2
