Day 5 at the WTA 1000 event in Cincinnati will feature all four quarterfinals, including World #1 Iga Swiatek and a duel between two Top 5 players in Ons Jabeur and Aryna Sabalenka. It should be a very exciting day of action in the last 1000 event before the US Open.
WTA Cincinnati Day 5 Predictions
Iga Swiatek vs Marketa Vondrousova
Head-to-head: Swiatek 2-0 Vondrousova
The world #1 got upset in the semifinals at Canada by Jessica Pegula, but she’s unsurprisingly making yet another deep run here. Vondrousova might be top 10 in the world but she got easily beaten in her two previous meetings with Swiatek and the same is highly likely to happen again here.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
Coco Gauff vs Jasmine Paolini
Head-to-head: Gauff 1-0 Paolini
Gauff has become a very consistent player, but she’s yet to win a really big title, mostly due to her inability to beat Iga Swiatek. She won in Washington recently though and will surely be fancying her chances here and at the US Open. She should be able to overcome Paolini here in relatively easy fashion.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
Karolina Muchova vs Marie Bouzkova
Head-to-head: Muchova 1-0 Bouzkova
This is quite a surprising quarterfinal matchup, but both players had excellent runs to get here, with Muchova beating Maria Sakkari and Bouzkova beating last week’s Canada champion Jessica Pegula. Both players are playing great and this should be a very high quality match decided by small details.
Prediction: Bouzkova in 3

Ons Jabeur vs Aryna Sabalenka
Head-to-head: Sabalenka 3-2 Jabeur
This will be a rematch of the Wimbledon semifinal, won by Jabeur in three sets. On a hard court, however, Sabalenka should have the slight edge in this battle of Top 5 players. Jabeur, however, is playing her first tournament after her disappointing loss in the Wimbledon final and should be very fresh and hungry for victory here.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 3
