Just four main remain to contest for the ATP 250 title in Umag, Croatia. The 2023 edition has served up excellent tennis throughout the week with many young guns leaving their mark. That being said, we also have veterans still toughing it out. As ever, we at LWOT preview and predict both semifinal clashes is for you.
ATP Umag Semifinals Predictions
Matteo Arnaldi vs Alexei Popyrin
Head to head – First Meeting
Both players have made the most out of the opportunity presented to them this week in a very manageable half of the draw. The 22 year old Italian and the 23-year-old Australian will no doubt be very motivated to reach the final as chances like these do not present themselves every day.
Matteo Arnaldi has won at the Challenger level but this week has shown that he can hold his own on the main tour as well. Alexei Popyrin has been on the tour for some time now but he’s still 23 and the Australia has a big game to trouble anyone on any surface. Expect this match to go right down to the wire with the Australian just clinching it on the back of his huge serving.
Prediction: Popyrin in 3
Lorenzo Sonego vs Stan Wawrinka
Head to head – First Meeting
Stan Wawrinka is flying the veteran flag high as he is the only member of the semifinalists to be above 30 years of age. The Swiss has produced sublime tennis this and is yet to drop a set in the three matches he has played thus far.

Lorenzo Sonego plays his best on the clay courts and the Italian will be looking to go all the way here given the inexperience of the other semi final match. That being said, the Italian will have to go past the experienced and heavy hitting Swiss and their first meeting should be a cracker. Expect Sonego to have a fast start but Wawrinka looks good here for the win.
Prediction: Wawrinka in 3
