Alexander Zverev French Open

It’s an action-packed Day 3 at the ATP Hamburg European Open with a mix of first and second-round matches on the slate. The top two seeds at the tournament will be in action as will Germany’s No. 1 player, Alexander Zverev. We also look at the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article. Who will do you think will win?

ATP Hamburg Day 3 Predictions

Laslo Djere vs Guido Pella

Head-to-head: Pella 3-1 Djere

Laslo Djere has a score to settle here. Guido Pella has beaten him twice at Tour level before and once on the Challenger circuit. But that was dating back to 2019 when Djere’s stock had not yet taken flight. Djere’s vast battery of endurance was on full display as he defeated French Open quarterfinalist Tomas Martin Etcheverry 7-6 6-3 on Monday. The head-to-head sample size won’t have a huge bearing on the outcome of this match. So Djere should be expected to take down the Argentine.
Prediction: Djere in 2

Lorenzo Musetti vs Jozef Kovalik

Head-to-head: first meeting

Last year Lorenzo Musetti earned the title in Hamburg, beating Carlos Alcaraz in a thriller. And his title defense got off to a perfect start as he lay waste to Elias Ymer 6-4 6-1 and will next face lucky loser Jozef Kovalik. Musetti’s draw looks kinder in the first two rounds, but he faces a potential roadblock from the quarterfinals. Even though the Slovak produced a major upset in Bastad this past week when he eliminated a high-profile name (Davidovich Fokina), the Italian looks very much dialed in for the occasion.
Prediction: Musetti in 2

Alexander Zverev vs Maximilian Marterer

Head-to-head: first meeting

Is Alexander Zverv back to his best? This question has been swirling around since the German returned to full fitness this year. But if we’re being honest here, a title win might just be the tonic that Zverev needs at this stage. Zverev has done commendable work not to get distracted by recent off-court controversy as he brushed aside Alex Molcan 6-0 6-3 in his opener. Marterer, for his part, won the battle of the wild cards, beating fellow German Rudolf Molleker in straight sets. While this could be tight as Marterer will try to serve big and stay in touch on the scoreboard, it will come down to ground stroke precision, and Zverev will have the upper hand.
Prediction: Zverev in 2
