It’s time to begin the 2023 WTA Ladies Open Lausanne. Monday’s schedule contains five singles main draw matches (plus qualifying and doubles). The most exciting one of them all might be Jil Teichmann taking on Erika Andreeva, which will end the action on Centre Court. Who do you think will advance to the next stage of the event? We also look at the rest of the day’s matches in a separate article.
WTA Lausanne Day 1 Predictions
Dayana Yastremska vs Jenny Duerst
Head-to-head: First meeting
This is a qualifying match. Dayana Yastremska used to be touted as a very big prospect, but she just can’t seem to get back on the right track recently. Still, she often plays the occasional great match and looked fine in Palermo last week, losing to Jasmine Paolini in three sets in round two. Top-seeded in the qualifying, she should be fine against Jenny Duerst, who’s kinda struggling at the ITF level this year and hasn’t really received opportunities like these before.
Prediction: Yastremska in 2
Jil Teichmann vs Erika Andreeva
Head-to-head: First meeting
Jil Teichmann is down to World No. 124 and really needs a big result here. It feels like her ranking is not quite reflective of how she’s been playing this year with a number of great individual performances. One of them was the 6-3 6-2 defeat of Erika Andreeva at an ITF event in La Bisbal. Playing at home and against someone with a game that’s still a bit underdeveloped, it’s a must-win match for her. We’ll see how she handles the pressure.
Prediction: Teichmann in 2

Elina Avanesyan vs Evgeniya Rodina
Head-to-head: First meeting
Elina Avanesyan’s lucky loser run to the fourth round was one of the stories of this year’s French Open. Now we actually get to see what the Russian is made of when playing these sorts of events on a regular basis. Last week in Budapest she got blown out by Nadia Podoroska, but still managed two wins against solid opposition. It doesn’t seem like Evgeniya Rodina will trouble her with how little she’s been able to play recently and her own poor showing in the same event in Hungary.
Prediction: Avanesyan in 2
