Wimbledon Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Aryna Sabalenka vs Panna Udvardy

Aryna Sabalenka BNP Paribas Open

On Tuesday, Day 2 of the Wimbledon Championships, we will complete both the men’s and women’s first rounds. That means there are 32 women’s singles matches, and–as always–we here at LWOT will share our thoughts on every single one of them with you. We split the day’s 32 matches into eight articles. Our other seven articles feature Beatriz Haddad Maia vs Yulia Putintseva, Petra Kvitova vs Jasmine Paolini, Elena Rybakina vs Shelby Rogers, Karolina Muchova vs Jule Niemeier, Ons Jabeur vs Magdalena Frech, Bianca Andreescu vs Anna Bondar, and Maria Sakkari vs Marta Kostyuk. Predicting this set of matches are Jack Edward, Jakub Bobro, and Jordan Reynolds. Who do you think will advance?

Wimbledon Day 2 Women’s Predictions

Linda Noskova vs Dalma Galfi

Jack:
If Dalma Galfi had been forced to come through qualifying, I’m not sure we’d be seeing her in the main draw. The Hungarian’s game is far better suited to clay and, even then, her form has been spotty recently. Linda Noskova has the game to seize control of this one.
Prediction: Noskova in 2

Jakub:
Noskova has been decent on grass and doesn’t get the toughest of draws to start against in Dalma Galfi. It will be interesting to see how the young Czech handles the moment.
Prediction: Noskova in 3

Jordan:
This is a difficult match to call. Noskova is playing her first Wimbledon, and her grass court skills are still somewhat unknown. Galfi got to the second round last year, but it is Noskova who is having the better season by far, and is comfortably the higher ranked player. Expect Noskova to win what could be a tight match.
Prediction: Noskova in 3

Jaqueline Cristian vs Lucia Bronzetti

Jack:
The difference in confidence will be clear here. Though Jaqueline Cristian’s game is better suited on paper for this surface, Lucia Bronzetti is in far better form than the Romanian. Cristian’s style of play could actually win her set but I fancy Bronzetti to get the win here given her performance in Bad Homburg last week.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 3

Jakub:
Bronzetti is coming off of a strong run last week so in current form, should be a decent favorite against Cristian, who enters with a protected ranking.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 2

Jordan:
Both players are making their first appearances in the Wimbledon main draw. But it is Bronzetti carrying the better form after her run to the final at the the Bad Homburg Open final. I see nothing to believe Cristian will have enough to counter the level Bronzetti has shown she Dan reach on grass.
Prediction: Bronzetti in 2

Katie Boulter vs Daria Saville

Jack:
Daria Saville has crashed down the rankings due to the injury she sustained late last year. Katie Boulter won’t underestimate the Aussie’s tennis, however. She knows she’ll need to bring a decent serving performance into her first round to stave off Saville’s game.
Prediction: Boulter in 3

Jakub:
Boulter has proven her grass pedigree time and time again. Saville will not beat herself but Boulter should win here and maybe pull off an upset or two in this draw.
Prediction: Boulter in 2

Jordan:
Boulter won her first ATP title in Nottingham a few weeks ago to catapult herself inside the Top 100, although she didn’t win a match at her next two tournaments. Gavrilova only returned to action during the grass court season after nearly a year out with an ACL injury. Making a Grand Slam comeback against a home favorite will not be easy. Expect Boulter to win.
Prediction: Boulter in 3

Aryna Sabalenka vs Panna Udvardy

Jack:
Aryna Sabalenka may have slightly wobbled against Veronika Kudermetova but she actually ended that straight sets loss playing fantastically. She will likely have picked herself up and will be ready to dominate proceedings against Panna Udvardy, a player with very limited grass court experience.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Jakub:
Sabalenka has a difficult draw with Camila Giorgi looming in the second round and Anna Blinkova in the third but gets an easy opener her against Udvardy.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Jordan:
Sabalenka has established herself as an all court player and one of the best players on the planet after winning the Australian Open and semifinal appearances at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. Her motivation may be even higher after being banned from last year’s tournament as a Russian player. Udvardy got past the first round last year, but that won’t be repeated.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2
