WTA Berlin Day 2 Predictions

Jaimee Fourlis vs Xinyu Wang

Head-to-head: first meeting

Both players made it through the qualifying with some impressive performances and are now have an excellent opportunity to get a rare win at this level. That said, Wang is generally the far more solid players and should have the edge in this one, even if it’s likely to be a tight encounter.
Prediction: Wang in 3

Jule Niemeier vs Ons Jabeur

Head-to-head: first meeting

Jabeur came tantalizingly close to the Wimbledon title last year but fell at the last hurdle, and then again at the US Open. Her grasscourt credentials are well established by now and she will surely be confident of going one better this year. A title this week would greatly help her in terms of momentum and confidence and this first round is unlikely to pose a serious obstacle to her run.
Prediction: Jabeur in 2

Bianca Andreescu vs Marketa Vondrousova

Head-to-head: Vondrousova 1-0 Andreescu

Vondrousova won 6-0 6-1 when the pair faced in Rome earlier this year and while this one will almost certainly not be as one-sided she’s also the favorite here. Even at her career peak, Andreescu was never really comfortable on grass and her level last week hardly inspires any confidence.
Prediction: Vondrousova in 2

Maria Sakkari vs Alize Cornet

Head-to-head: Sakkari 3-1 Cornet

The pair faced last week, with Cornet winning and dropping only five games in the process. This time around it will surely be much closer but on grass Cornet most certainly has the ability to beat Sakkari yet again, especially since Sakkari has really been struggling with her form recently.
Prediction: Cornet in 3

Polina Kudermetova vs Elena Rybakina

Head-to-head: first meeting

This is easily the most one-sided match of the day on paper; the world #3 and defending champion is a very clear favorite here. Rybakina is having a great season and is one of the favorites, if not the favorite, to defend her Wimbledon title. She’s highly unlikely to be troubled here.
Prediction: Rybakina in 2
