Richard Gasquet managed to take out Stefanos Tsitsipas in Stuttgart last week, can he pull off another wild upset in Halle? After all, the 37-year-old made the final four at Wimbledon twice. Who do you think will come out on top?
ATP Halle Day 2 Predictions
Borna Coric vs Alexander Bublik
Head-to-head: First meeting
You never know what you’re going to get with Alexander Bublik, but he definitely is more likely to bring his best on grass than on clay. Borna Coric is a former champion at this event back in 2018, beating Roger Federer in the final. That run seems like a bit of a flash in the pan though with the Croat never really doing that much on the surface elsewhere. A focused Bublik is the favorite here and it seems likely that the Kazakh will actually be determined here. He usually is on the lawn.
Prediction: Bublik in 3

Louis Wessels vs Yannick Hanfmann
Head-to-head: First meeting
Louis Wessels shocked everyone to qualify for this event, especially Zhizhen Zhang and Henri Squire, whom he managed to eliminate. This isn’t the worst draw in the world as despite Yannick Hanfmann’s form and his big game, he’s never really had that much success on grass. Is that likely to change this year? Probably not, but everyone expects him to progress here. Provided he brings a competitive level on the day, he should manage to make the second round.
Prediction: Hanfmann in 2

Richard Gasquet vs Jannik Sinner
Head-to-head: Sinner 1-0
Richard Gasquet is a two-time Wimbledon semifinalist (2007, 2015) and while way past his prime, he’s clearly still capable of great things on this surface. In Stuttgart last week, he eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas and made the last eight. Jannik Sinner’s early 2023 form has gone way a bit recently and while he did gather some worthwhile grass experience last year, he can still be vulnerable in these conditions. This should actually be very tricky for the Italian.
Prediction: Gasquet in 3
