The first WTA tournament of the year on grass, in Nottingham, has a very strong field for an event of this category, with even two Top 10 players in the draw. The tennis on display will surely be very different from what we’ve seen in recent months on clay and this second day of the tournament promises a lot of excitement and tight matches. We also predict the rest of the day’s action in a separate article.
WTA Nottingham Day 2 Predictions
Emily Appleton vs Katie Boulter
Head-to-head: Boulter 1-0 Appleton
Boulter prevailed when the pair faced earlier this year on hard court and she’s once again a very clear favorite to do so. Appleton did get some nice wins in qualifying and she’s better than her ranking outside the top 400 would suggest, but ultimately Boulter should be able to prevail here.
Prediction: Boulter in 3
Jil Teichmann vs Viktorija Golubic
Head-to-head: Golubic 2-0 Teichmann
This all-Swiss affair should be extremely tight. Golubic won both of their previous matchups, but they both happened three and four years ago and on different surfaces (clay and hard court). Right now, it could be argued that Teichmann is the better player and has at least a slight edge going in to this match.
Prediction: Teichmann in 3

Katie Swan vs Alize Cornet
Head-to-head: first meeting
This should be another very tight match. Swan reached a grass final at ITF level last week, but Cornet is also comfortable on grass and even reached the last 16 at Wimbledon last year. Swan’s match play on grass this year and home advantage might be enough to swing things her way here, but it’s a very tough one to call.
Prediction: Swan in 3
Magda Linette vs Olivia Gadecki
Head-to-head: first meeting
Linette is having a breakthrough season and is the third seed here in Nottingham. Grass is unlikely to be happy hunting ground for her in general and a deep run at Wimbledon isn’t expected, but she should be able to get past a much lower ranked opponent in her first match here.
Prediction: Linette in 2
