The business end of the ATP Barcelona Open 2023 is upon us as Round of 16 action is set to begin on Day 4. So far the top seeds have fared well but all that could change in this round as several exciting prospects are on the rise. As ever, we at LWOT preview and predict all scheduled matches for you.
ATP Barcelona Day 4 Predictions
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Emil Ruusuvuori
Head to head – Davidovich Fokina 1-0 Ruusuvuori
Emil Ruusuvuori might just be the dark horse this week in the top half of the draw. The Finn has played sublime tennis in his first two matches and he looks extremely comfortable this time around on the clay. He takes on the Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina who did play a solid match but is still vulnerable as the match goes deep and against the hitting of Ruusuvuori.
Prediction: Ruusuvuori in 3
Grigor Dimitrov vs Alex de Minaur
Head to head – Dimitrov 2-2 de Minaur
This should be an extremely exciting matchup with both players splitting their four past previous meetings. Grigor Dimitrov is a solid player and mover on the clay courts but his whole game will be tested against a speedy Alex de Minaur. The Australian should be a player that would do very well during this part of the tennis season and it’s only a matter of time before he does. That being said, expect the Bulgarian to employ a lot of variety in his shots as the match drags deep.
Prediction: Dimitrov in 3
Yoshihito Nishioka vs Jannik Sinner
Head to head – First Meeting
Yoshihito Nishioka played a solid match to overcome David Goffin in his first round but it’s a steep climb in quality of opponents for the Japanese. Jannik Sinner is close to playing at his very best and it will take some stopping to beat the Italian. Sinner is striking the ball extremely well and while Nishioka does defend well, the Italian’s fire power should be enough for the win.
Prediction: Sinner in 2
Roberto Bautista Agut vs Carlos Alcaraz
Head to head – Bautista Agut 0-1 Alcaraz
Carlos Alcaraz is back in his typical fashion of winning and giving no quarter to his opponents. The Spaniard will be looking to start his road to a second grand slam trophy by nothing short of a title this week. He takes on fellow Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut who has already faced the barrage once in their lone previous meeting. Expect Alcaraz to continue in the way that he has done this year.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 2
