The semifinals are set at the ATP Marrakech Grand Prix and it’s quite an unexpected line-up, particularly in the top half of the draw. But, as always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for both matches. The only question now is: who will reach the final?
ATP Marrakech Semifinal Predictions Including
Pavel Kotov vs Alexandre Muller
Head-to-head: first meeting
Alexandre Muller could break the top 100 with a win here and he’d certainly be among the more unexpected debutants in that group this year. This will be the first ATP Tour semifinal for both players and all that tension could lead to a nervy game, just like it did for Pavel Kotov in his quarterfinal against Christopher O’Connell.
The Russian has a much more threatening game with a better serve and a flat forehand that just pierces through the court, even on clay. Will Muller be able to handle the pressure with the top 100 debut in sight? Kotov is the stronger player with more potential, but in an encounter with this much at stake for both competitors, that’s not guaranteed to grant him the win.
Prediction: Kotov in 3

Roberto Carballes Baena vs Dan Evans
Head-to-head: first meeting
Both players really needed this run after pretty poor starts to the season. Roberto Carballes Baena won just two matches in one of his favorite hunting grounds during the Golden Swing. Meanwhile, Dan Evans was sitting at a disastrous 3-9 for the year.
Clay isn’t really the Brit’s favorite surface, although he can be competitive on it and famously took out Novak Djokovic in Monte Carlo. His trademark slice doesn’t get the usual bite, but Evans is a smart player who knows how to hide his weaknesses. But can he overcome such an expert clay grinder as Carballes Baena? The Spaniard should be considered a slight favorite with all the improvements he’s made to his game over the years, but it’s all very much in the balance.
Prediction: Carballes Baena in 3
