Holger Rune at ATP Indian Wells

Seventh seed Holger Rune of Denmark beat Marton Fucsovics of Hungary 6-3 7-5 in the second round of the Miami Open on Friday. The match was over within two hours as the 19-year-old Dane cruised to a victory.

Rune will face 31st seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina in the third round on Sunday. We will now take a look at how the match progressed:

Holger Rune displayed his subtle touch throughout the first set:

Rune was in his element from the very beginning and asserted his supremacy through his deft touches. His drop shot off the backhand dragged Fucsovics into the net a few times quite early on in the match before the Dane finished those points with volleys.

Rune rushed the net frequently in the first set and then hit volley winners on quite a few occasions. He broke Fucsovics in the third game of the first set and then again in the ninth game to win the set convincingly. The Hungarian committed a double fault on set point to allow the Dane to draw the first blood.

Rune became a bit more aggressive in the second set:

Rune was not more forceful with his groundstrokes in the second set. The Dane hit a few powerful inside-out forehands to keep Fucsovics under pressure.

The Hungarian, meanwhile, fared better in the second set than in the first, but handed Holger Rune the decisive break of serve in what turned out to be the last game of the match. Fucsovics ventured forward on match point, but could only hit a volley into the net to hand Rune a win in straight sets.

Rune won 81% and 74% of the points on his first serve, respectively, while Fucsovics only managed 74% and 60%, respectively. The Hungarian got only one break point opportunity in the match, which he failed to convert.
