WTA Miami Day 2 Predictions Including Karolina Muchova vs Jil Teichmann

Karolina Muchova BNP Paribas Open

Wednesday at the 2023 WTA Miami Open features all the bottom half women’s singles Round 1 matchups. Amanda Anisimova takes on Madison Brengle in an all-American generational battle, while Czech stars Marketa Vondrousova, Linda Noskova, and Karolina Muchova will also kick off their campaigns.

As always, we here at LWOT predict every match on the day. We split them between three other articles, featuring Leylah Fernandez vs Lesia Tsurenko, Sloane Stephens vs Shelby Rogers, and Emma Raducanu vs Bianca Andreescu. Who do you think will advance to the next stage of the event?

WTA Miami Day 2 Predictions

Amanda Anisimova vs Madison Brengle

Head-to-head: 1-1

Madison Brengle beat Amanda Anisimova in Dubai last year, which was a sizeable upset at the time. The youngster was in much better form back then, but so was her opponent. With Brengle’s very passive playstyle, this one should really depend on Anisimova’s disposition. Game-wise it’s not really close, but it wouldn’t be the first time the 32-year-old produced a win that doesn’t make much sense on paper.
Prediction: Anisimova in 2

Linda Noskova vs Lucia Bronzetti

Head-to-head: Noskova 1-0

Lucia Bronzetti has some big points to defend here as she made the fourth round last year. Her chances don’t look great. The Italian has generally struggled to leave a big mark on the tour in the long run and she’s facing an incredible talent. It’s unclear where Linda Noskova’s breakout year will take her, but it’s much further than what we’ve seen from her so far.
Prediction: Noskova in 2

Tatiana Maria vs Marketa Vondrousova

Head-to-head: Vondrousova 2-0

With her slice-and-dice game, Tatiana Maria is a tricky player to face. But it feels like if you’re well-equipped to handle her gimmick, you’re going to handle her somewhat comfortably. That’s what Marketa Vondrousova has done twice in her career so far. With the Czech rising up the rankings again after physical issues, this is a great opportunity for her to keep going.
Prediction: Vondrousova in 2

Karolina Muchova vs Jil Teichmann

Head-to-head: Teichmann 1-0

No one needs to be convinced that Karolina Muchova is a real threat when healthy. She’s been showing that constantly all season and that includes a quarterfinal appearance in Indian Wells last week. She’s also played two matches in Miami already, crushing Kristina Kucova and Heather Watson. Jil Teichmann is a talented player herself, but her 2023 form just really pales in comparison to the Czech’s.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
