Day 2 at the first WTA 1000 event of the season, in Indian Wells, won’t feature the seeds yet, but it should feature plenty of exciting matches with unpredictable outcomes. One of the main attractions of the day will be 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu, who keeps trying to regain the kind of level that saw her obtain that victory.
WTA Indian Wells Day 2 Predictions
Madison Brengle vs Laura Siegemund
Head-to-head: Siegemund 2-1 Brengle
Siegemund did very well to qualify to the main draw and she got a pretty decent draw here too, it’s even fair to say she’s the slight favourite to make it into the second round. Siegemund had a very decent run at the Australian Open, only losing to Caroline Garcia and seems to be playing well in general this year, while Brengle hasn’t really had any notable results thus far.
Prediction: Siegemund in 3
Tatjana Maria vs Jasmine Paolini
Head-to-head: Maria 1-1 Paolini
This is a very difficult match to call; both players have similar level, similar rankings and are in very similar form as well. Both players will be looking at this match as an opportunity to win a match at a big event and maybe get some momentum after a slow start to the season.
Prediction: Maria in 3
Rebeka Masarova vs Peyton Stearns
Head-to-head: first meeting
Masarova had a great run through qualifying, barely struggling on her way to the main draw, and she now has a very kind draw here as well. Both players are at a similar level here, they’re still young and have a lot of upside. It should be a very tight match decided by small details.
Prediction: Masarova in 3
Danka Kovinic vs Emma Raducanu
Head-to-head: Kovinic 1-0 Raducanu
Raducanu is still struggling to find anything remotely similar to the form that led her to the 2021 US Open title. On paper she has a kind first round draw here, but Kovinic did beat her at the Australian Open at 2022 and could very well pull it off again.
Prediction: Kovinic in 3
