Davis Cup Predictions: Finland vs Argentina

Pedro Cachin in action ahead of the Davis Cup.

Argentina aren’t bringing their #1 ranked player Diego Schwartzman to this Davis Cup tie but they’re arguably still at least slight favorites to make it past Finland here, although home advantage for Finland is potentially an equalizer. It should certainly be a well-contested tie and, as always, we here at LWOT are offering our predictions for all four singles matches. But who will come out on top?

Davis Cup Predictions: Finland vs Argentina

Emil Ruusuvuori vs Pedro Cachin

Head-to-head: first meeting

On clay it could be a different story, but on a hard court Emil Ruusuvuori is a clear favorite to score a point for Finland here. He impressed at the Australian Open and is generally solid on this surface. Pedro Cachin has been making solid strides of late and has improved on hard courts, but it is asking a lot of the Argentine to get the better of Ruusuvuori, especially as the Finn is playing on home turf. This should be fairly straightforward for Ruusuvuori.

Otto Virtanen vs Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: first meeting

Francisco Cerundolo lived up to his seeding at the Australian Open, reaching the third round where he put up a decent fight against sixth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime. His ranking relies a lot on his run to the semifinals in Miami last year but he’s proved to be a dangerous players at times, albeit inconsistent. He does prefer the clay, but his powerful forehand makes him a dangerous opponent on any surface and he is the clear favourite to prevail here.

Emil Ruusuvuori vs Francisco Cerundolo

Head-to-head: first meeting

This could very well prove to be the decisive rubber, with the top ranked players of each team facing off. It’s a very difficult one to call, a match that could genuinely go either way. Both players are at a similar level and neither is exactly consistent or reliable. Home advantage might well prove to be the decisive factor in favour of Ruusuvuori and Finland here.

Otto Virtanen vs Pedro Cachin

Head-to-head: Virtanen 1-0 Cachin

This is certainly far closer than the rankings would indicate. Otto Virtanen is young and has a bright future. He also beat Cachin in their only previous meeting, dropping only six games in the process back in 2020. On a hard court and in front of his home crowd, he might be able to get the better of Cachin again.

Prediction: Virtanen in 3
