ATP Adelaide Day 3 Predictions Including Daniil Medvedev vs Lorenzo Sonego

Daniil Medvedev Acapulco

It’s another exciting day of action at the 2023 Adelaide International as all the remaining first-round ATP matches will be wrapped up. Andrey Rublev and Roberto Bautista Agut will face each other for the eighth time in their professional careers, while Daniil Medvedev starts his campaign against Lorenzo Sonego. Who do you think will win?

ATP Adelaide Day 3 Predictions

Jannik Sinner vs Kyle Edmund

Head-to-head: First meeting

Kyle Edmund only played five pro events last year, the last one being the US Open. He recently appeared in the UK Pro Series too, and while he won the event, he was dropping sets to players of a much different caliber than Jannik Sinner. It would be amazing to see Edmund come back to the level he once had, but it just doesn’t seem like he can possibly be ready for a win like that at this point.
Prediction: Sinner in 2

Roberto Bautista Agut vs Andrey Rublev

Head-to-head: Rublev 4-3

These two have already had plenty of exciting battles, but didn’t face each other in 2022. Andrey Rublev stayed more active during the off-season, playing a couple of exhibition events. On the other hand, Roberto Bautista Agut used to be pretty famous for starting his seasons well, grabbing titles in Auckland (2016, 2018), Doha (2019), or performing extremely well at the ATP Cup. This should be very exciting but Rublev seems to have a small edge as he was in better form the last time we saw them.
Prediction: Rublev in 3

Pedro Cachin vs Karen Khachanov

Head-to-head: Cachin 1-0

Can Pedro Cachin keep up his amazing 2022 form in the new season? We’ll see, but it’s highly likely that the Argentinian will suffer a bit of a drop-off, although maybe not instantly. While he did improve on hard courts recently, beating someone like Karen Khachanov will be a very tough ask for him anyway. He owns a head-to-head win over the Russian from a clay Challenger seven years back, which seems irrelevant for their match in Adelaide.
Prediction: Khachanov in 2

Daniil Medvedev vs Lorenzo Sonego

Head-to-head: First meeting

Daniil Medvedev should be out for blood in the early days of the 2023 season, coming off a campaign that was definitely below his expectations. He got a couple of quality matches in during the Diriyah Cup exhibition, losing in the final to Taylor Fritz. Can that help him stay in a better match rhythm? Probably. This being the first week of the year gives Lorenzo Sonego a punter’s chance though as the first weeks of a calendar year are usually more upset-heavy.
Prediction: Medvedev in 3
