United Cup Day 2 Predictions Including Maria Sakkari vs Viktoriya Tomova

Maria Sakkari in action at the WTA Guadalajara Open.

Day 2 of the United Cup will bring plenty of exciting, high quality action on both the ATP and WTA sides, including WTA #6 Maria Sakkari. This tournament might not feature many top ranked players, but it is sure to provide a lot of quality, drama and tension. We also predict the rest of the day’s matches, split between two other articles. One features Stan Wawrinka vs Alexander Bublik and the second features Jessica Pegula vs Petra Kvitova.

United Cup Day 2 Predictions

Jason Kubler vs Dan Evans

Head-to-head: Kubler 1-1 Evans

Although the head to head is even, Kubler’s win was a blowout at Wimbledon in June of this year, with Evans winning only eight games. That was on grass, where Kubler feels the most comfortable, but he’s generally on an upward trend and has the home advantage here in Australia. It will most likely not be as easy as it was at Wimbledon, but Kubler should have enough to prevail here.

Ajla Tomljanovic vs Harriet Dart

Head-to-head: Tomljanovic 2-1 Dart

Tomljanovic leads the head-to-head, but Dart won the most recent match between the pair in straight sets last November in the Billie Jean King Cup. It was still a very tight affair and the same should be expected tomorrow as there’s little to separate both players.
Predictions: Tomljanovic in 3

Michail Pervolarakis vs Dimitar Kuzmanov

Head-to-head: first meeting

This is on paper the least glamorous match of the day and it is also theoretically one-sided in favor of Kuzmanov, but it could still provide quite a bit of intrigue as Pervolarakis will surely be eager to take advantage of this rare opportunity to play on a big stage to really show what he’s capable of.
Prediction: Kuzmanov in 3

Maria Sakkari vs Viktoriya Tomova

Head-to-head: Sakkari 1-1 Tomova

Sakkari won pretty comfortably when the two faced at Wimbledon in the summer and the same should be expected here as she’s simply the much better, higher ranked and more consistent player. She should be able to get through this one in two and score a relatively easy point for Greece.
Predictions: Sakkari in 2
