Veteran Fernando Verdasco takes to the courts of ATP Sofia on day 3 of the tournament in Bulgaria. We have predictions for every day 3 match including Grigor Dimitrov vs Ilya Ivashka.
Marc-Andrea Huesler vs Geoffrey Blancaneaux
The Frenchman Blancaneaux won their only meeting. He won two rounds of qualifying to set himself for an opportunity for a first ever ATP main draw match win. At a career high ranking of #139, things are going well for Blancaneaux right now, having put together a 19-18 ATP Challenger Tour record on the season. Switzerland’s Huesler also just reached a career high ranking of #85 last month. His 5 ATP main draw wins this season make up nearly half of his career total. He’s also 21-11 on the ATP Challenger Tour with a pair of titles. He recently reached the semis in Winston-Salem. With both players in form, this should be a good match, Huesler seems to have more upside to his game. Huesler in 3
Fernando Verdasco vs Nikoloz Basilashvili
Verdasco has won two of their three meetings, both players have struggled this season with Verdasco 4-11 at tour level, and Basilashvili 14-27. Verdsaco hasn’t had a winning record on tour in four years and things are winding down on his career. Basilashvili is still a top 50 player and on indoor hard courts is good enough to level the h2h and reach the next round. Basilashvili in 3
Alexandar Lazarov vs Lorenzo Musetti
The home player Lazarov won his opening match, this is the first time ever he’s had multiple tour level wins in a season. His career has thus far been largely confined to the ITF Futures Circuit and the occasional ATP Challenger match. Musetti’s 22 ATP level wins this year is a career best, the Italian reached the third round at the US Open and should be counted on to make quick work of a lower tier player like Lazarov, even if the Bulgarian is highly motivated.
