ATP Sofia Day 3 Predictions Including Grigor Dimitrov vs Ilya Ivashka

Grigor Dimitrov in action ahead of the ATP Sofia Open.

It should be an entertaining third day at the ATP Sofia Open with six intriguing matches on the slate in Bulgaria. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Alexandar Lazarov vs Lorenzo Musetti. But who will advance?

ATP Sofia Day 3 Predictions

Lorenzo Sonego vs Bernabe Zapata Miralles

Head-to-head: Sonego 3-0 Zapata Miralles

Lorenzo Sonego is coming off a title in Metz, but should still have a lot left in the tank with the Wednesday start and not dropping a single set on the way to his third tour-level trophy. Bernabe Zapata Miralles is a clay-court specialist, but he’s competent on other surfaces and should grab a couple of ATP wins indoors at some point. However, it’s probably going to be against someone weaker than Sonego, especially with the Italian arriving in Sofia with so much confidence.

Jan-Lennard Struff vs Dusan Lajovic

Head-to-head: Struff 2-0 Lajovic

Jan-Lennard Struff had no issues in his qualifying campaign, defeating Aziz Dougaz and Mirza Basic in straight sets. The German’s season has been rough so far, especially as part of it was destroyed by having to undergo foot surgery. However, things are definitely looking better and better as Struff has now pulled off five wins in a row (qualifying here plus three wins at Davis Cup). Dusan Lajovic hasn’t been competitive off-clay this year and should be considered a favorable draw at this point.

Grigor Dimitrov vs Ilya Ivashka

Head-to-head: Dimitrov 1-1 Ivashka

Grigor Dimitrov played his home country ATP 250 just once, taking the title back in 2017. Five years later, he’s definitely not an overwhelming favorite for the title like he was back then. His form has been very uneven and he shockingly hasn’t even made a final since February 2018. Ilya Ivashka can make this upset, especially as he’s picked his game up of late with a fourth-round appearance at the US Open recently. However, Dimitrov will be extra motivated to go deep here and still has the higher upside of the two.

Prediction: Dimitrov in 3
