Day 6 at the WTA event in Seoul will feature the semifinals of the tournament, with two former Grand Slam champions facing each other in one of them and the top 2 seeds both still in the draw. It should be a very exciting final weekend for South Korean tennis fans and it has the added bonus of featuring two first-time matchups, making outcomes even harder to predict.
WTA Seoul Day 6 Predictions
Tatjana Maria vs Ekaterina Alexandrova
Head-to-head: first meeting
Alexandrova has been having a solid season and is the #2 seed of this tournament and favorite to advance here, but Maria is no slouch either and her ranking is negatively affected by the fact that no points were awarded for Wimbledon, where she reached the semifinals. It should be a very tight match between two players looking for their second title of the season.
Prediction: Maria in 3
Jelena Ostapenko vs Emma Raducanu
Head-to-head: first meeting
This is, on paper, the headliner of the day with the 2017 Roland Garros champion taking on the 2021 US Open champion. Since winning the French Open, Ostapenko never won a big tournament again but she’s still a top 15 ranked player in the world and has won some WTA titles. Meanwhile, for young Raducanu US Open 2021 remains the only title she’s ever won at the WTA level; what’s more, this week is the first time she’s won three matches in a row since. It remains to be seen whether the young Brit just had a slump after her first slump and will now rise back (she’s currently ranked #77) or whether this week won’t mean much in the long run, but she has an excellent opportunity to claim a second career title here in Seoul. Her level has been very good this week and there’s very little to choose between her and Ostapenko here.
Prediction: Raducanu in 3
