Marcos Giron is the highest ranked player in action on Wednesday in San Diego. The American is also one of the favourites to lift the title. However, a relatively weak draw means the chance of upsets is high. We cover three of the six matches on Wednesday in our other set of ATP San Diego day 3 predictions, so be sure to take a look at those as well. With that being said, let’s get stuck into the three featured in this article.
ATP San Diego Day 3 Predictions
Marc Huesler vs Daniel Galan Riveros
Head-to-head: First meeting
Daniel Galan Riveros and Marc Huesler are two players who have enjoyed good campaigns in 2022. Both sit comfortably inside the top 100 in the men’s game as a result and will be keen to cement that position with a good run here. Galan Riveros has a big serve which is a real weapon on these courts. That being said, both prefer clay courts and this match appears to be anyone’s for the taking. Galan Riveros has had the slightly better year so I’ll give him the edge here, but this one is hard to call.
Prediction: Galan Riveros in 3
James Duckworth vs Mitchell Krueger
Head-to-head: First meeting
James Duckworth is the clear favourite here. Mitchell Kruger sits outside the top 200 while The Aussie is comfortably inside the top 100. He has far more experience on the ATP Tour and is the better player here. Krueger is playing in his home country which should give him a bit of a boost. Even so, I expect Duckworth’s superior talent level to prove too much for Krueger here.
Prediction: Duckworth in 2
Marcos Giron vs Tomas Etcheverry
Head-to-head: First meeting
On paper this a close match. However, Marcos Giron is a superior player on hard courts given Tomas Etcheverry is something of a clay court specialist. In fact, the Argentinian has played just eight hard court matches this year and is 4-4 in those matches. Giron is a dark horse for the title in San Diego and should win this match relatively comfortably.
Prediction: Giron in 2
