Day 3 at the ATP event in Metz will feature a lot of exciting action. For a post-US Open tournament, especially in the same week as the Laver Cup (which will have a lot of top players), Metz has a pretty strong draw headed by former #1 Daniil Medvedev and with a lot of French players.
ATP Metz Day 3 Predictions
Evan Furness vs Alexander Bublik
Head-to-head: first meeting
Furness is making his ATP debut and is a clear underdog here, but Bublik isn’t the worst opponent to face in those conditions. Although he’s a clear favorite, he’s very prone to inconsistency and can beat himself against anyone on any given day so Furness isn’t without chances. Bublik has been having a rough season thus far but his biggest moment was precisely on French indoor courts as he won Montpelier earlier in the season.
Prediction: Bublik in 2
Mikael Ymer vs Adrian Mannarino
Head-to-head: Mannarino 1-1 Ymer
Mannarino had a very strong start to the season with an excellent run in Australia but has since failed to get any particularly noteworthy results. Ymer isn’t exactly having a great season, with the only really strong result being a semifinal run in Washington, but he’ll come into Metz full of confidence after his Davis Cup win against Jannik Sinner, one of the best victories of his career so far for sure. It’ll almost surely be an extremely tight match, decided by small margins.
Predictions: Ymer in 3
Gregoire Barrere vs Oscar Otte
Head-to-head: Barrere 2-0 Otte
This is also expected to be an extremely tight match despite the fact that Barrere won both of their previous matchups. Otte seems to be a bit of a grass specialist but a quick indoor court should suit his game very well too. Barrere is playing at home and feels comfortable on these courts. It will ultimately come down to form on the day and a 3-setter is to be expected.
Prediction: Otte in 3
Sebastian Korda vs Lorenzo Musetti
Head-to-head: Musetti 2-1 Korda
This head-to-head is quite misleading since Musetti’s two wins came on clay, his strongest surface and Korda’s weakest. Korda won their only hard court matchup and should be the favorite to prevail here as well; Musetti has shown some improvements on hard courts and even scored a pretty impressive victory over David Goffin at the US Open in an epic match, but on this surface the outcome will definitely be on Korda’s racket.
Prediction: Korda in 2
