The second round of the 2022 WTA Slovenia Open will be wrapped up on Thursday. There are four singles matches on the schedule, including the top seed, Emma Raducanu, taking on Anna-Lena Friedsam. Who do you think will advance?
WTA Slovenia Open Day 4 Predictions
Diane Parry vs Anastasia Potapova
Head-to-head: First meeting
This battle of the youngsters should be very exciting. Diane Parry was outplayed by Donna Vekic early on in their first-round match, but managed to outlast her opponent. Anastasia Potapova kicked off her campaign with a solid win over Claire Liu. The Russian has the power to force Parry behind the baseline and direct pace at her one-handed backhand. If she can do that with enough consistency, she should find a way to take this one.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
Katerina Siniakova vs Jodie Anna Burrage
Head-to-head: Siniakova 1-0
Jodie Anna Burrage is enjoying a great season and has now shown she can also win rounds in WTA Tour events outside her country. This will likely be a step too far as Katerina Siniakova has been playing very well recently. Besides winning the US Open in doubles, she almost completely dominated a 100K ITF in Grodzisk Mazowiecki at the beginning of August. She’s also got decent variety in her game and should prove a troubling matchup for someone a little new to the tour like Burrage.
Prediction: Siniakova in 2
Jasmine Paolini vs Kaja Juvan
Head-to-head: Juvan 1-0
Kaja Juvan hadn’t won a match since Wimbledon before this week, but she scored a very impressive win over Alize Cornet in the opening round. The Slovenian talent has a lot of upside and will be very determined to go deep in an event in her home country. Jasmine Paolini isn’t as much of a clay-oriented player as most people think, but she doesn’t have the potential that Juvan has on hard courts.
Prediction: Juvan in 3
Emma Raducanu vs Anna-Lena Friedsam
Head-to-head: Friedsam 1-0
Anna-Lena Friedsam defeated Emma Raducanu at an ITF event in Roehampton three years ago, but this should be a completely different story. While the Brit isn’t near her 2021 US Open form, she’s been looking a bit rejuvenated of late. Friedsam has done well to qualify and beat Elizabeth Mandlik, but she’ll need to play very aggressively to put pressure on Raducanu here and she’ll likely end up with an error spree.
Prediction: Raducanu in 2
