WTA Palermo Final Prediction – Lucia Bronzetti vs Irina Camelia-Begu

Irina-Camelia Begu in action ahead of the WTA Gippsland Trophy

We’ve reached the final of the 2022 Internazionali Femminilli di Palermo. Lucia Bronzetti will make her WTA final debut against Irina Camelia-Begu. We have predictions for this and every ATP and WTA final match this week.

Lucia Bronzetti vs Irina Camelia-Begu

Head-to-head: First meeting

It’s been a career-best year for Bronzetti, who won the biggest title of her life in Chiasso (ITF 60K), made the semifinals in Rabat (WTA 250), and had that fourth-round run in Miami as a lucky loser. It was easy to consider that last one a bit of a fluke, but the Italian kept proving herself on the big stages. This week so far, she scored a hugely impressive win over the in-form Caroline Garcia, before seemingly running low on fuel in the opening set against Jasmine Paolini, only to come back and make her first WTA Tour final.

Irina Camelia-Begu is a three-time WTA Champion who looks to be on her way to returning to the WTA top 30. Begu upset Sara Sorribes Tormo in the semifinals, winning a tough three-setter from a set down. She’s dropped a set in all but one of her matches this week, including two wins from a set down but has battled back each time from those setbacks and is looking strong.

While Bronzetti didn’t look fully alright physically in her last match, Begu has just competed against Sorribes Tormo for over three hours. Therefore, it is unclear who’ll have the advantage fitness-wise. The Romanian is definitely the more creative player when given the opportunity to construct the rallies and do something with the ball. Bronzetti will have the crowd on their side (always huge in Palermo), but her skillset is a lot more basic. Begu will definitely have experience on her side too.

Prediction: Begu in 3
