The final four is set in Hamburg. Top seed Anett Kontaveit has found her best tennis and looks the favourite to win the title. However, the likes of Budapest champion Bernarda Pera and young Russian star Anastasia Potapova will surely have something to say about that. In this set of predictions we cover both semifinal matches so no need to look elsewhere for WTA Hamburg semifinal predictions.
WTA Hamburg Semifinal Predictions
Bernarda Pera vs Maryna Zanevska
Head-to-head: 1 – 1
Pera is in with a real chance of winning back-to-back titles here. The American has the easier route to the finals as far as opposition is concerned. However, Maryna Zanevska is a talented opponent and certainly won’t go quietly. The Belgian faces an uphill battle against Pera who hasn’t lost a set in ten straight matches. Her run to the title in Budapest has certainly rejuvenated a career that seemed to be heading in the wrong direction. If she wants to continue that upward trend, she will need to find the mark regularly with her potent forehand and continue to be aggressive whenever possible. Zanevska is in the midst of the best run of her career and won’t go quietly. However, Pera has been too good over her last ten matches to pick against her in this one.

Anett Kontaveit vs Anastasia Potapova
Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Kontaveit
I said in yesterday’s predictions that Potapova would make a statement on the WTA Tour some time soon. Turns out she’s ready to do so sooner than I had anticipated. She was ruthless in her dismissal of Barbora Krejcikova in the last round. The Czech hadn’t dropped a set so far in Hamburg, but could only muster four games in a mauling at the hands of the young Russian. She now faces another stern test in Kontaveit. The world #2 had been missing in action for a few months on the tour thanks to a battle with COVID-19. However, she appears to be back to her best in Hamburg and is yet to drop a set.
The Estonian is among the best in the world on her day and it’s hard to pick against her when she’s in form. However, there seems to be something about Potapova here that says she just won’t lose. Two titles in three months would certainly be a statement in most books. Potapova looks ready to make that statement now now.
Prediction: Potapova in 3
