WTA Hamburg Quarterfinal Predictions Including Anett Kontaveit vs Andrea Petkovic

Five of the top eight seeds in Hamburg have made it to the quarterfinals. Joining those five are two players who have won WTA titles on clay in recent months, meaning Thursday’s matches should be full of high quality tennis. The likes of Anett Kontaveit and Barbora Krejcikova remain the favourites to win it all. However, an Anastasia Potapova or an Aliaksandra Sasnovich could easily throw a spanner in the works. With just four matches to play, this will be the only set of WTA Hamburg quarterfinal predictions you need to look out for. With that covered, let’s take a look at Thursday’s matches.

WTA Hamburg Quarterfinal Predictions

Bernarda Pera vs Kateryna Siniakova

Head-to-head: 4 – 0 Siniakova

The lopsided head-to-head record between these two makes it seem like Pera is facing an uphill battle here. However, the American is fresh off a title in Budapest last week and has shown no signs of slowing down. Siniakova is an incredibly consistent player who can frustrate even the best of opponents into making errors. Her win over Daria Kasatkina in the fist round was proof of that. However, Pera has a higher level than the Czech on clay and is full of confidence at the moment. I don’t think she’s ready to remember how to lose just yet.

Aliaksandra Sasnovich vs Maryna Zanevska

Head-to-head: First meeting

This should be a great match between two players in the middle of a bit of a career resurgence. Sasnovich has charged into the top 40 in the women’s game after staring the year ranked outside the top 100. Maryna Zanevska has climbed 180 ranking spots since the start of last year. Both are in great form and full of confidence with hopes of going deep in Hamburg. I have to give the edge to the Belgian here, purely because she is more comfortable and accomplished on clay. However, this one should be a tight match and could go either way in the third.

Barbora Krejcikova vs Anastasia Potapova

Head-to-head: 1 – 0 Krejcikova

Krejcikova is the better and more accomplished player of these two. However, Potapova certainly has the potential in her to change that narrative and has played some very good tennis in recent months. If the Russian can continue to play this well on clay then she may be ready to challenge the very best in the women’s game. The Czech is certainly among that group and I think she will have enough to see off Potapova based on her level this week. Don’t be surprised if that doesn’t remain the case for long though. At some point, Potapova is going to make a statement on the WTA Tour.

Anett Kontaveit vs Andrea Petkovic

Head-to-head: 2 – 0 Kontaveit

Both Andrea Petkovic and Kontaveit have made it to the quarterfinals relatively unchallenged. Neither has dropped a set and both have won matches they really should have to be here. If that trend of top player taking the spoils continues, then Kontaveit will be our winner. I think that’s likely the outcome of this encounter given the Estonian is finally finding some of the tennis that saw here tear up the WTA rankings last year. The world #2 has been missing for some time, but it looks like she’s back in Hamburg and a real contender to lift the trophy come Saturday.

Prediction: Kontaveit in 2
